Nobody thinks Ray was a saint (he made a terrible error, that cost him and his friends their lives), but lets not start exaggerating the 'crimes' of a dead teenager, just to defend someone like Joey Barton......
Why exactly have you put 'crimes' in quotes? The coroner said that he'd be tried if he had survived. He might well be a Lee Hughes-style pariah scratching round for a contract in league2, rather than a sentimental memory for Rangers fans.
Seems to me you're the one playing down a crime here. Joey's never killed anyone, and by the sounds of things he certainly didn't last night.
All I'm doing is highlighting the fact that many of our fans have clearly long since made up their minds on Barton ("defend someone like Joey Barton"), which leads them to rush to judgement in cases like this whilst ignoring far worse things that other players have done.
Honestly, all you people who think Barton is an irredeemable thug: before last night, did you really think he would let two drunken blokes start on him when out with his wife, not react, and not throw punches himself? Surely he was supposed to turn into the Incredible Hulk and gouge out his assailants eyes?
Shouldn't this incident make us look upon Barton.... more favourably?
(unless you go along with the whole 'he shouldn't be there/have a life anyway argument, which is laughable)

I'm done debating the Joey Barton thing on this board, at least until the club announces what is happening on Friday.
If the standard is, well is hasn't killed anyone like Ray Jones, then sensible discussions have been exhausted.
I've been fairly level headed in this thread, but this is just too much now.
Ray Jones, did something very very stupid (and yes criminal), and he paid for it with his life. Very sadly he took his friends, and their collective future with him which is tragic.
All I'm asking for is for Joey Barton to be removed from the football club, I'm not asking for him to be jailed, and I'm not saying he was in any way to blame for this mornings incident (as I've previously stated on here).
The unequivocal defence of Barton is one thing, but the ridiculous arguments used, and the name-calling etc of those who want him gone is just unpalatable now.

The point being made is he's made a target of himself, on and off the pitch. Events like last night will keep happening because JB is an extremely hated figure. You only have to see the amount of daily vitriolic abuse he gets on twitter to see that. So is he worth all the hassle and grief it brings to the club? I guess we'll know the answer to that this friday when the result of the club's internal investigation is due to be announced.
Why do people take Twitter so seriously?! Do you not think Joey is on there to kill time and annoy people? It's called having a laugh, people who take Twitter seriously need to get out the house and get a life! People will give Joey abuse for a laugh too, people need to get a grip and realise social networking isn't the real world!
