  • Kenny, Derry and Smith to Leeds?

    http://www.thenational.ae/sport/foot...red-to-chelsea

Elsewhere, Queens Park Rangers are close to allowing Paddy Kenny, Shaun Derry and Tommy Smith to join former manager Neil Warnock at Leeds United. The goalkeeper, midfielder and winger, all in their 30s, are likely to be considered surplus to requirements as Mark Hughes seeks to rebuild a squad that only escaped relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Warnock, who led QPR to promotion in 2011 before being dismissed in January, was also interested in bringing Clint Hill and Jamie Mackie to Elland Road, but both have been offered new contracts at Loftus Road.

This bloke Castles has been known to get the odd whisper FWIW, not your usual tabloid fantasist.

Would be very surprising if Warnock didn't take a few to Leeds, and tbh they would be the most likely. They'd be terrific signings for Leeds.

Losing Derry would be a blow to the squad, I thought he had a great season, far more consistent than our captain.

It'll be sad to see Derry leave but realistically Hughes wouldn't be doing his job properly if he was planning for next season with him in mind.

Think Derry loved his time there and would jump at the chance for first team football with Warnock again. Makes sense all round.

Either way, with all the nutjobs in our squad it will be crucial to get in midfielder with a bit of nous this summer. I liked the sound of Danny Murphy when the rumour came up but he's re-signed there now I think.

I don't know about other fans but i'm finding this position we are in very unsettling and alien to how i'm used to thinking. We have had a successful team who were crowned champs of the championship, and now we're breaking that team up, and it just doesn't feel right, i know it's a necessity but it feels like a betrayal.
So many things have changed for us, and i suppose with ambition and wealth the whole ethos of our club has changed, don't get me wrong it is exciting but very strange.
Players are leaving that i like and if this is true i wish them the best of luck and thanks for a season that i could only dream about 5 years ago.

One other thing I was thinking was that if Derry's maybe ready to take a back seat now it'd be great to see Hughes involve him (and Hill) on the coaching side like we have Bircham. Good pros with a lot of experience to pass on.

If he does fancy one last adventure at Leeds though then fair play and I wish him well.

I think we should keep Derry. He's been offered a one year contract aint he?

I would keep Derry for 1 more year with Hill.

He has been great but we are not a retirement home. Big clubs do off-load ageing players. It used to be us who picked them up on their way down. Hughes has said he won't let anyone go unless they are replaced with better. Happy to back his judgement.

Derry can still do a good job for us. We'll need squad players that can come straight in and do a job, which I think both him and Clint have proved they can do.

                        1 more year for Derry.

You'd want to think Hughes has a few replacements already in mind. I agree letting him go as it stands would weaken the squad.

Also it's not like Hughes hasn't valued experience in his time, at Blackburn he was playing Tugay well into his late 30s.

Derry's no Tugay of course, but still.
