  • your 'five true qpr legends'...........and why???

'legend'..........im affraid that honour is bestowed by some too easily on here for my liking...........the word 'legend' should not be chucked around like an essex girls love tunnel....but placed upon those whon have earned the accolade on many levels!!!!!

1/ alex stock.......gave us to datre our greatest honour and lead us to the top division for the first time

2/ rodney marsh.....mercurial talent and scorer of two of our wembley goals to win the league cup!

3/stanley bowles.....for me our greatest ever player and in todays market would be worth twice as much as rooney!!

4/ alan macdonald......almost spent his entire career here and never gave less than 100%

5/ ian holloway.... honest no nonsense.player....managed us at our lowest ebb and returned us to headier days.......always speaks well of us ........for me a true qpr legend!!

ps...........jim gregory ,our first real benefactor/chairman gets a special mention as a qpr legend!

In my relatively short life time the number 1 contender has to be Lee Cook; the sole act of him giving the club his 250k signing on fee when we were in trouble is enough, for me, to class him as a proper Rs legend. Top top man.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

1 Stan Bowles: my boyhood hero arrogant, nonchalant, brilliant
2 Gerry Francis; my boyhood hero no2 mr QPR midfield dynamo England captain what an honour to have one of own as England cap, great manager too plotted our greatest away win 4-1 at Manchester Utd.
3 Ian Holloway; have to agree with Facto, limited player but my god made the most of his career, and held this club together through very thin times true Rs legend.
4 Ian Gillard; Great defender very loyal servant played 485 games for us, played his last game in the FA cup final replay v Spurs, pity it wasn't a winners medal
5 Sir Les Ferdinand; What a striker quick, direct, awesome in the air scored hatricks v Everton and Forest over a bank holiday weekend, represented England my adulthood hero. The only player to leave QPR that i continued to "like" and follow his progress, massive loss to the Rs, we gained a paltry £6 mill, but it cost us 15 years, and alot of tears, as result of his sale.

        1. Les Ferdinand. My favourite player when I was growing up.
        2. Ian Holloway. His enthusiasm and character started our recovery onto the road where we are today.
        3. Paul Furlong. The way he was treated when he first joined us to the way he turned things around was fantastic. An integral part of us getting out of the 3rd tier.
        4. Jamie Mackie. Never say die attitude and scoring massive late, late goals.
        5. Gareth Ainsworth/Kevin Gallen/Marc Bircham. Undecided on this last one.

          1. Stan Bowles - the best player IMO to have played for us.

          2. Alan McDonald - bled blue and white. Best defender we've had IMO.

          3. Trevor Sinclair - I took my youth team to LR for a stadium tour and he turned up to spend time with the kids, fantastic lad.

          4. Gerry Francis - the best midfielder we've ever had - ours and England's captain.

          5. Les Ferdinand - the most complete forward ever seen in the shirt.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

                  Good thread Facto.

Difficult to argue with your choices although I feel that Jim Gregory should be there somewhere.

I'm only 18 so some of you might not agree with these

1- Lee Cook - My idol growing up, I had his name on all of my shirts & will always be a massive favorite of mine

2-Jamie Mackie - Maybe jumping the gun as he's already playing but i've learnt so much from him in my own game, a man who's always in the right end of the battle. Really is a role model

3- Paul Furlong - He's everything I love in a striker, he could hit a sweet shot, can header a ball with power, had pace to his game (If I remember right) & was just a big lump so he could hold up the play too - a big bully of a striker who had everything

4- Danny $hittu - Such a great player with a great name, he really was a player I loved to watch play football

5- Tony Fernandes - What he is doing for this football club is unreal, if fans push him away from our club then i'm turning my back on the fans. This is the man who wants to take QPR to the next level, these type of people in football are a total god send for football fans and i'm very greatful. The way he has passion & a clear plan is very impressive and something young people can learn alot from
                          Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
                          And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Stan Bowles - Simply the best as good as George Best imo..
Jim Gregory- Mr QPR he put this little club on the footballing map..
Gerry Francis- legendary player and captain..
                            Alan McDonald - colossal defender..
Ian Holloway- simply because he got the best out of his ability, and for when he managed the club..
