The following is my view on the squad this season
• 1Paddy Kenny (G) 6/10 No disputing that he has performed well and saves against RVP against Arsenal paved the way for a win against highflying Arsenal but whether he will be number 1 choice next season is opento question. Think we will be looking for extra competition in this department. Though must add he has been a tremendous servant to QPR and kept us in many games both this season and last.
• 24Radek Cerny (G) 5/10 Had an excellent game against Liverpool and some even made noises that he should have been number 1 keeper. Top professional who went above Murphy in the pecking order though whether he can maintain this position is debatable.
• 3Clint Hill (D) 9/10 Must have thought his days were numbered when Warnock shipped him out to Nottingham Forest only to be given the chance under Mark Hughes to play in his best position at the heart of the centre of defence. I really hope he gets given a contract extension but club might feel that another season in the premiership might just be a step too far. A credit to our football club and whatever happens will always be highly regarded. Quite rightly received Player Of the Season from players and the fans.
• 5Fitz Hall (D) 3/10 Had continual injury problems throughout the early part of the season and even by his own admission was left out of match-day squads even though he had recovered fully from injury. Made a contribution early part of season but I suspect he will be on his way come the summer
•
• 6Danny Gabbidon (D) 4/10. Got bench time in the final few games but again found 1st team opportunities limited and I suspect being a Warnock signing he maybe another who will be looking for another club in the summer.
•
• 13Armand Traore (D) 6/10 Not been given enough chances in my view> Whilst defending is not his strong suit he is probably the best crosser of a football at the club. His pace catches defenders out and given more opportunities left wing I still think he is young enough to make an impact. Not sure if Hughes like him as much with the loan signing of Taiwo but time till tell.
•
• 15Bruno Perone (D) 1/10 not altogether sure why he even made the 25 man squad and looked very shaky in the one game he started. Not surprisingly left out of the January 25 squad and surely will be off in the summer.
• 18Luke Young (D) 7/10 Until the arrival of Nedum Onuha arguably one of our better defenders and once he got injured surprisingly could not find his way back in. Somewhat surprised to see him leave half time against Stoke City so not sure if he is in plans for next season> One of the most interesting to see if stays or goes in the summer
34Taye Taiwo (D) 6/10 Took time to settle in and the game against Aston Villa was a baptism of fire. I love his attitude and you can see how much he enjoys playing for us. He has now settled and think he has made the left back position his own and suspect it’s a formality he joins for next season on a permanent basis
• 35Anton Ferdinand (D) 8/10 One of my best players of the season and when he finally got a settled partner we were able to concede far less goals. My ideal candidate for captain next season because I think he carries himself in way befitting of our club. Think he has many more years to give to QPR
• 42Nedum Onuoha (D) 5/10 I am still not convinced but Mark Hughes is and that’s what matters. Think at this level he is prone to make a mistake and sometimes lacks concentration. No doubting his pace and strength and I now think the right back position is set in stone for him.
• 2Samba Diakite (M) 8/10 After the first game was wondering how he would react to the pace of the premiership. Clearly brought into the first team far too early but what a revelation after his sending off. Needs working on his shots at goal but exactly the kind of player we need as someone who is great in a tackle and with more games will become one of the best midfielders in the Premiership. Just hope we can sign him
• 4Shaun Derry (M) 8/10. What more can be said that in my view this guy is a legend of QPR whatever happens in the near future. Simply outstanding and a never say die attitude makes him a character worth having around the club. Whether he has another season this vigourous is open to question but surely has a part to play
• 7Adel Taarabt (M) 7/10 By his own standards not had a great season. He is though a big match player as shown against Spurs and Arsenal. After the comical departure at Fulham to find a bus stop he has improved his tracking back and team play under Mark Hughes. I can only see him having a better season in 2012/13 and suspect he will put in more match winning performances.
•
• 8Kieron Dyer (M) 0/10 Really cannot say too much though it was a big risk to bring him to the club, one which took about 10 minutes of the first game to show it clearly did not pay off
• 11Alejandro Faurlin (M) 8/10 I have given him an 8 because he never fails to disappoint and when can only hope he returns the player he was. So frustrated he got an injury against MK DONS in a competition that the then manager Neil Warnock never really took seriously. It’s likely we won’t see him back until November so it will be a key decision by Mark Hughes to see if he is included in the first 25 squad announcement come the end of August.
• 14Akos Buzsaky (M) 5/10 I felt he struggled coming to terms with the pace, but can still take a mean free kick though one would question if he warrants a new contract with the ambitions of the club. He has been a very good player for us and still remains the longest serving player at the club.
• 17Joey Barton (M) 4/10 A big decision for the club is pending after the fracas against Manchester City and I fear the FA will give him a 10-12 game ban. No disputing his passion and after Hughes dropped him to the bench against Sunderland he definitely played his part in keeping the club up. No doubting on his day he is in your face midfielder who gives 100% but the other side is something that surely will see his captaincy of the club questioned at the very least.
• 21Tommy Smith (M) 3/10 Not really been given a look in after a smashing goal v Wigan. Was used as sub sparingly and no doubt one of the main sufferers of the new signings coming into the club. I suspect he won’t be around next season but has done well for us.
•
• 32Shaun Wright-Phillips (M) 4/10 A major disappointment who looked like a great signing the time we played Newcastle United at home. Being switched continually by Neil Warnock must have dented his confidence and I feel he still has alot more to offer. Felt he worked his socks off against Manchester City but with Jamie Mackie being preferred on the right think his chances will be limited and another key decision awaits if a club from the premiership comes calling.
• 9DJ Campbell (F) 4/10 I felt he has been incredibly unlucky and I really wanted him to do well with his QPR connections but it seems Mark Hughes has a different opinion. With the signing of Djibril Cisse think his chances of making his dreams come true at QPR will be very limited and suspect another promoted team will come calling especially if Blackpool make the top flight
• 10Jay Bothroyd (F) 3/10 Major, major disappointment for me, this guy has all the attributes to be a top class premiership player yet continues to disappoint . I had hoped that Mark Hughes could get his positioning right and get him fiercely contesting the tackles and headers, this has not happened and for that reason could be on his way this summer
• 12Jamie Mackie (F) 9/10 What can I say? He may not be the greatest footballer in Britain but he has the heart of a lion. He simply never gives up and awarded with another year extension on his contract. Responsible for turning our season around with his winning goal against Liverpool and continues to give everything for QPR
• 20Rob Hulse (F) 1/10 Again got one or two chances under mark Hughes, but will surely get an opportunity to make a comeback in the Championship and I suspect will do a good job for someone like Leeds or Sheffield United.
• 22Heidar Helguson (F) 6/10. Injury had curtailed him playing any part in the latter part of the season but was instrumental in making lives difficult for a number of defenders in the Premiership. I think he has a great leap and gives everything but suspect that again another club will come calling this summer. Bearing in mind he seems down the pecking order behind at least 3 strikers he will be a great acquisition for a number of other clubs
• 23Djibril Cisse (F) 7/10. Would get a higher mark only for two sending offs which could have cost us. No doubt has great pace and an eye for goal and I suspect if we can keep him fit for next season he will play a pivotal role in banging in the goals. Just needs to work a little on his temperament then we have a great signing on our hands
• 52Bobby Zamora (F) 6/10 He has scored goals and his hold up play has enabled the team to get forward. A bit inconsistent for my liking but has been the lone figure up front for us towards the end of the season. He totally suits the style of a 4-5-1 formation and bearing in mind we done well against teams at home with this set-up he will continue valuable asset to our team next season
• 1Paddy Kenny (G) 6/10 No disputing that he has performed well and saves against RVP against Arsenal paved the way for a win against highflying Arsenal but whether he will be number 1 choice next season is opento question.
