Not quite true. Wolves Away in 2009 was the last Away game, but penultimate game. But it gets weirder, check out 2004 to 2006 also -

2004 – Plymouth (a) penultimate away game - Champions
2005 – Wigan (a) penultimate away game – Runners Up
2006 - Reading (a) last game - Reading were Champions
2007 - No-one
2008 - West Brom (h) last game - West Brom were Champions
2009 - Wolves (a) penultimate away game - Wolves were Champions
2010 - Newcastle (h) last game - Newcastle were Champions
2011 - QPR ! Champions v Leeds (h)
2012 - Man City (a) last game – Champions !

So our divisions Champions were crowned when we're involved (for/against us) 7 years out of the last 9 + Wigan as Runners Up. 5 went to the last game.
