  • Is Derry the new Steve Palmer (Mr undropable)

Seems like we have another passenger who Hughes won't drop despite the fact every rime he plays the game passes him by. (Circa Steve Palmer 2002-04 It's no coincidence that our most convincing performance of the season came vs Swansea when Derry was suspended. If Diakite is unavailable Sunday MH must go with Barton and Buz in the middle. However Stoke don't use the midfield so not sure what difference it would make for this game. On another note would we as fans cheer a Stoke red card knowing what impact it would have next week.

Bit of a daft post mate, Hughes is playing Derry because he has to, we simply don't have any other options.

You say play Buz in the middle but when he has played he has been largely anonymous for the majority of the game and offers nothing defensively. I think we look at Buz with rose tinted glasses sometimes cos he pops up with occassional wonder goal or killer cross.

To Shaun Derry's credit I think he has played out of his skin this season. He's not the most gifted footballer on the planet, I think we can all see that but he gives it 100% every week. In a relegation dog fight you need characters like Derry and Clint Hillin the dressing room and on the pitch.

Good post. I think you're right regards Buzz; I am guilty of this myself. Im a big Buzz fan, but it has become apparent in recent games that he does go missing for large chunks and loses possesion more than he should.

Derry isnt a world beater and is off the pace in alot of games but, as you say, he will run through walls for you on that pitch when he is called upon. With a fully fit squad he wouldnt be selected, its only because of the loss of Diakite (which is a huge loss!).
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Often hear this 'they bypass midfield'. Maybe true. But what about when we have the ball? We're at home (so more possesion in theory) and we should set up to our strenths. If we want to play the ball through the midfield then we will.

And f*cking turn this lot over.

Derry ain't a passenger, yes there are games when he maybe ain't so good but there also games where he has been superb, bit like Buzz, bit like Joey, bit like Diakite
