  • Would you spend £2.5m on Beckford?

Hypothetical, but if you were manager and Leeds said give us £2.5m and Beckford is yours, would you pay it or look elsewhere?

At £4m will Chopra score more goals than the £2.5m rated Beckford probably not. £2.5m would be good VFM especially compared with what we could have spent on a striker.

Far too much cash on a couple of levels.

Firstly - it's debateable that a player who has failed to deliver outside of the third tier can make the step up.

Secondly - he's out of contract in June 2010 with no compensatory age related or academy nutured related clauses. £2.5m would be laughable. £750k tops with a few add ons.

                £2.5m buys you David Nugent

I dont see how we could get him for much less. Like ive said before, surely its worth spending that extra amount to get a player who will score goals. Its better than paying less, and getting someone who doesnt score, whilst watching your rivals push for promotion. If we are to take promotion seriously, we have to make the odd big signing in my opinion

So why have Villa just spent reportedly £8m on Delph?

Nugent is reportedly going for £4m anyway, to Stoke.

Never a prolific scorer in the CCC, rather take a punt on Beckford at £1.5m less.

                            Why Pete?

It really sounds like you're trying to justify why we won't spend money. £2.5m is peanuts, as is the £4m Fulham want for Kamara when the prize is a return to the Prem.

I'll wager with anyone interested that if Beckford moves to a decent CCC club, he'll be an instant success. For me, he's guarenteed 15-20 goals, maybe more.

I think in League 1 he's at his level and won't be able to make the step up.
Similar player to cause a storm in that league and attract big money and flop - Trundle.
