2.5m on somebody with his scoring record, allbeit in a division below represents great VFM, speculate to accumulate, an initial layout of 2.5m could see a return of 60m if his goals contribute to promotion. For me its a no brainer, I just wish that the owners would agree.

Would you spend £2.5m on Beckford?

Similar player to cause a storm in that league and attract big money and flop - Trundle.
I'm not going to repeat my reasons for believing this as It's getting boring, but Becford is without doubt the better equipt player to make the step up out of any league one striker over the past 2 seasons.Your mum would love me...

Benny's right. £2.5m in nothing in football terms for a decent player. Obviously in the big scheme of things £2.5m is a lot of money (especially to clubs like Livingston) but if this club have any ambition to become a Premiership team they have to spend money improving what they have. Sheffield United missed out on automatic promotion on the last day and lost in the play off final and even they have strengthen their attack so they stand a better chance of it not happening again.

I've gone for yes - even though I'm not 100% convinced that we would get VFM. But it would really be a kick in the teeth to the many on here that pour scorn on everything our board does........e.g they would only have a freebie, what pay money for him etc etc......so please sign him up and we can get back to proper footy debate#standuptocancer

There has not been uncut diamonds like Beckford and Cox for years. I am shocked that people moan that we need a striker and when presented with these two names, people say they are not good enough.
£2.5M on light fittings in hospitality areas that no one uses is acceptable, but £2.5M on a striker that will be the difference of getting into the play-off's or an automatic slot is not.

Maybe we shouldnt have got Ferdinand because he played for Hayes and obivously couldnt handle the top division.

Any transfer is a risk, but without risk you don't get reward. He will be our best forward by a long way. He has scored 34 goals in 37 games last season. What a return. Much better than Cox who everyone was raving over. Do we think Pat or HH would get 34 goals in League 1. Not a chance, would struggle for 15.
Do we really think that 2.5 million is to much to risk? We've had the money in for Dexter and Delaney, if it works we make the Premiership, if it doesn't we have a another striker.:drunk:

Agree Kingy10 especially about the part about any transfer is a risk. Morienties failed at Liverpool and Shvenchenko failed at Chelsea but 99% of people would have said that they would have succeeded. At the same time most would have said that WBA were the stronger of the three promoted last year and they went down while Hull and Stoke stayed up. Nothing in football is guaranteed and if Beckford were to sign and fail than £2.5m isn't a lot especially when you think of the money we must have made selling Blackstock, Camp and Delaney as well as releasing Cole and Crowther.

It really sounds like you're trying to justify why we won't spend money. £2.5m is peanuts, as is the £4m Fulham want for Kamara when the prize is a return to the Prem.
I'll wager with anyone interested that if Beckford moves to a decent CCC club, he'll be an instant success. For me, he's guarenteed 15-20 goals, maybe more.

I'm not convinced he is worth a 2.5m fee as a lump sum and I wouldn't pay it.
He may score freely in League 1, so did Trundle, Billy Sharp, Izale McLeod (I recall some fans on here wanted QPR to buy him from MK Dons). Nathan Tyson, Nicky Maynard are two others who haven't quite repeated their lower league form in the CCC.
Maybe Beckford is another Steve Bull or Rob Earnshaw i.e. a forward who could score in any league level outside of the Prem League (and given a proper chance perhaps could at that level too), but it is a gamble.
He is out of contract next summer, and QPR should be able to negotiate a better deal with a lump sum and add-ons based on his success. Maybe even a sell-on fee.
