  • THAT Wegerle goal v Leeds

What a goal. I was lucky enough to be there, it was Jan Stejskal's debut in goal, he had just been voted best keeper in the 1990 World Cup and we signed him! Obviously a quality keeper, but had communication problems in those early days as he didn't speak much/any English.
We went 2-0 down, came back to win 3-2 and there was the memory of Wegerles superb strike to take home along with the 3 points.
How many times have you read a report about a goal that you haven't witnessed, and they say "Bloggs beat 5 men to score"-but when you see it on TV Bloggs had actually beaten ONE opponent and four others had given up the chase! But Wegerle dribbled round about 5 of them, genuinely took the ball past them. And Leeds were no mugs then.
One of THE great QPR away days

My first trip up to Leeds that one, took the official coach. If my memory serves me right we watched 'The Krays' on the way up there ;D

Probably the best goal I have ever seen live

One of the best away games I've been to

Here's the goal plus some others to remind you all what we can be capable of and to wet the apetite for next Saturday and beyond:

I was sitting in the Lowfield road stand with my Leeds mate and when Wegerle scored I jumped up. The fact it was such a good goal probably saved me getting a good kicking that day, as people were clapping all around me.

I was also at that one

I think they also missed a penalty that day and had a goal disallowed as well plus our coach caught fir so not the best of days

                      It was freezing too.

Before kickoff, I was spraying my little bro's (Luke) hair blue and white behind the boozer next to the chippy accross the road from the ground. Bless him...he was only about 15 at the time. I think it was the 1st away game I took him too. When we went 1-0 up, I phoned my Leeds mate who I had a bet with to let him know...needless to say, he wouldn't stop calling me at half-time.

It took until I was half way home on the coach before I could muster the strength to call him back and take the abuse I gave him ten-fold.

                      Not a nice day.

I remember Luke Peppard (I'm sure it was him?) screaming at us all to shut up and stop singing as we were still more vocal than them. Brian Dean getting 4 goals says it all really.

                        i was also at this game...lol (being honest i loved it.....lol )

this was the game where the lsa coach broke down at scratchwood services and gooch(rip)fell down the steep bank to choruses of belly laughter as we had to climb the fence from the motorway to the service station.i was 1 of the very few who missed this due to concentrating on climbing the fence myself at the same time!!

isleworth r offered me 2 vip tickets in the main stand but i (foolishly..lol) declined them as i thought it wasnt fair to the person/s who got my tickets already.

i remember ainsworth scoring in your 1st attack, then we all know wat happened after..lol

there were also rumours that day holly was going to wolves as he wasnt there due to flu.

                        oh happy days!!!!!!!!

                          Ollie was there mate.

He signed my bor's programme along with Furs, Ains, Gallen, Rose and a few others.

I spoke to him just as he got off the coach and he sounded like crap. White as a ghost too, bless him.

I don't think he managed that day, but he was certainly there.

Not olny did he beat those players, but some of thenm were hard & dirty tacklers including Gary McAllister & David Batty. It also won ITV's goal of the season award.

                              notice the packed qpr ends?
and the excitement and passion that TERRACING had....

now we sit, thru fear of bans and mad stewards and let the world slide by..football, yawn!

amazing how many were at leeds, i was there..via the offy coach and that end was really spacious, i thought 500 qpr there...and as leeds main firm was seated, few went there...

no one mentioned the fog....at 2-0 down, we hope it would get abandoned..memory of the day, 2 cops laughing at us at 2-0 down, mouthing off thru the fence...then 2-2 and they got some back..at 3-2 they walked off...few realised until they saw the replay, JUST HOW GOOD WEGERLES GOAL WAS....he drifts in, beats 1,2....shimmys, and bang, it rolls over the line, not breaking the net but placed superbly...cue celebration.
