  • Response I have had from the FA about the officiating on Sunday......

Fairly predictable, but i have fired off another one to Mike Riley. Let's hear what he has to say about Mr Mason and his Bolton background.

    Dear HammersmithR,

Thank you for contacting The Football Association.

A match official is expected to declare an interest if they have ever been connected in any way with a particular club. If they declare this interest they would not be able to officiate on a match involving that team.

If an official has had a connection, there are plenty of people who would make sure we were aware and it would be difficult for an official to keep this quiet especially for the higher profile games.

Whilst understanding your frustration as a football fan, every supporter will have an opinion on the game’s major talking points and we’re always interested to hear them. The Football Association receives frequent correspondence on individual refereeing decisions across all levels of football as well as on the performance of referees in general. It is important to understand that without a referee there is no game and as a result the long-term health of football relies on recruiting, retaining and developing referees. Whilst 100% consistency is impossible when human judgment is introduced into a situation, referees get the overwhelmingly majority of decisions right. In fact they are arguably the most consistent people in the game making split-second decisions that will be analysed repeatedly by slow motion cameras and panels of football experts.

There is a system in place for monitoring the performance of referees and referee's assistants. This involves referees assessors and reports from club managers. All assessors come from a footballing background and the majority are fully qualified referees themselves. The performances of referees over a season are then taken into consideration when the leagues appoint their referees for the following season.

The Select Group officiates in the Premier League and is the responsibility of Mike Riley, General Manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL). Premier League refereeing enquiries should be addressed to Mike Riley, The Premier League, 30 Gloucester Place, London W1U 8PL or via info@premierleague.com.

We do appreciate all of the feedback we receive from supporters. This feedback is collated and used to build a picture of public opinion and is subsequently fed back internally within the organisation. Please rest assured your comments will form part of this feedback process.

    Kind regards

What was the email address you wrote to Hammersmith? I'd like to give them my opinion on the match officials on Sunday and throughout the season so far.

    Cheers

It's on the Contact section of the FA website.

You need to register, but it's a simple process.

Email Mike Riley as well at the Premier League. email address is above.

I think you find that illegal, but would you like a first class stamp anyway.

I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.

Forget that I'll pay for the recorded delivery.

Dissenters like him will be registered and probably get banned for standing or sitting or breathing in view of the pitch :drunk:

                      Fair play for trying Hammersmith.

This is surely the part of his reply that stinks to high heaven. I don't see how this match cannot be seen to involve Bolton.

I posted this link from a Bolton forum on not606 on Sunday night.

ANNOUNCEMENT From January 8, 2024, burndenaces.co.uk will take a sabbatical as work begins on a new and improved website. Whilst this work commences,...

It's also worth noting that in all his career Mason has never been given a Bolton match so the FA must be aware of his interest/support for them.

Do you mind if I copy your post over to not606?
