  • Just my opinion, but...

Hughes was fortunate to have the refereeing fiasco to talk about as he'd clearly thrown in the towel before kick off. Not talking in terms of team selection - protecting Bobby and making sure Barton wouldn't be suspended were sensible moves - but the way the team carried itself throughout the match reeked of keeping our powder dry for Swansea. Jogging around, no pressing like a defensive training exercise, no shape at all moving forward, team told to "just go out and enjoy themselves" - when does Hughes ever tell his teams to do that?

I'm not criticising here necessarily - it's just pragmatism and perhaps he was right to be -but assuming Derry's ban will be rescinded I find it hard to really rage at the officials yesterday knowing we'd gone out with no real inclination to win it.

First off, I want to say that I understand both Mark's team selection, and the tactics.
But yeah, we had set out our stall in that opening 13/14 minutes, which makes Lee Mason's disgraceful decision even more disgusting in my book.
He didn't have to send Shaun off, ManUre were so in control at that point, but he just wanted to make it that little bit more of a certainty.

Surprising stat - Buzz covered more ground than any player on the pitch yesterday
      2nd was Mackie

You don't go to Old Trafford and just jog around

I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.

Zamora has had an illness this week so didnt start

Barton is on 9 yellows so didn't start

apart from this its the same team that was against Arsenal

Also we have been so slow out of the blocks all season that was just a common first 15 mins

Strange post, he went out for a point which would have been a great result, MH done nothing wrong!

And until the referees intervention, we had one.

We always seem to start slowly. Not sure why as it's incredibly annoying.

Outcome decided by one man's ridiculous behaviour, simple as that.

away to man utd i certainly would have played a defensive game, soak up pressure and hit them on the break. draw at old trafford would have been a great result.
as it turned out, its a lot harder to break when youve had a man sent off.
we did very very well to keep it down to 2-0.

Maybe it has something to do with Mark still being a closet Man U fan and us beating them wouldn't have been in his best interest giving Man C (the team that shafted him by the way) any hope of the title. Probably the last thing he would want. All in all a good day for him, a defeat without giving away too many goals (good for us) therefore 3 pts for utd and a step nearer the title. Him seeing man C beaten probably topped it off.

Man C being out of it could actually work for us on survival Sunday as they will have nothing to play for either.

The goal for this season is to stay up and goal differance is worth a point, if he had gone out in an attackin mine the chances of Man U turning us over by 4 or more would increase, look at what happen up at Blackburn when he didnt play it that way.

The best result we could have hoped for was to keep it tight and tried and hit them on the break or in the last 15 mins, i could see anything wron with the tactics or the effort the lads put in.

But what it does mean to make those tactics work WE MUST WIN ON WEDS

To suggest they didn't put in any effort is absolutely absurd. You don't come away from OT with only a 2-0 defeat having played about 80mins with 10 men without busting your balls!

As for tactics, they were what they needed to be. Losing a player put an end to any plan and it became damage limitation, and to that end they did bloody well!

The fact we actually improved our GD against Bolton and Backburn who I think we are fighting with to avoid 18th, and that Bolton again lost today is all good.

All things considered I think it was a great result, 10 men after fifteen minutes a lot of teams would have fallen apart. Our next two games are far more important.
                              Barton is Innocent ok....
