Right the real stuff starts on saturday yes we've scored goals against lower league teams not many of them from strikers! but on saturday when your playing against better teams and defences our midfield we'll get less space hence less chances thats why we needed to buy a striker who would snap up that chance in the 6yard box which would be the difference between us drawing or winning,of course i hope our strikers come good and surely hh is a better player than he's shown so far, with balatna in good form why not play him upfront with tarrabat on the left? again it's being realistic not moaning we needed a striker in the summer

By the end of August we will have played 6 matches, 4 of these will have been away from home. So there is enough games for the team to show the board if a striker is required. A great start with many goals will probably mean no new striker(s) but surely if we struggle (I don't think we will) then the board have a small amount of time to bring in someone, if there are any still available.I blew a lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. - The one and only Stanley Bowles

Pete these are friendlies mate. Sole reason for them is to get fit. Simple as that.
We have played and narrowly beaten teams that are way below us in the football ladder, Southampton are the only recognisable team and they were hopeless and very young.
It will all start Saturday and we will see who is right, the positive fans or the negative. Despite being negative I hope I'm wrong and we have a great season but I can't see it. Our weakest area last season was scoring goals and we have sold our top goalscorer without replacing him. What does that say?
You can kid yourself that we are gonna score hundred from midfield but you cannot play 4 attacking midfielders. I think he will play 4-4-1-1 with Rowlands, Mahon, Routledge and Balanta and Tarrabt behind Helgusson. Taarabt is in contention with Vine and Buz. I'd be amazed if they played in the same team. So our goalscoring midfielder is Tarrabt.:drunk:

Some may have just seen what was being built, knowing that with the missing (injured) creativity, and a couple of signings the following summer, we could have been on to a good thing.

Everything, I have seen pre-season has been positive and we've done really well. Me Thinks, fans are still thinking about last season, spoke to a couple of mates on Saturday, straight away they said " Borrowdale is rubbish" and "Balanta won't be any good". Surely, thats based too much on media and what fans saw last season. Have to say, even though it was a friendly soon changed their tunes after the game.
Any chance we can be a bit more positive??
What negativity? Nobody is saying we're going to get relegated or have i missed something?
I HAVE heard people voicing concerns over a lack of decent strikers on our books, as have i also read people questioning the ammount of goals conceeded pre season to lowly opposition.
They are friendlies! It's a chance for the boys to shake off some post season rust, and regain some fitness. Even if we had lost all of our games pre season, i still wouldnt expect people to be all doom and gloom as at the end of the day, friendlies prove and mean nothing for the following season. At the same time, just because we've won a few games agains the likes of Forrest Green and recentley relegated Southamptom, i dont expect anybody to be screaming for promotion.
Just because we arent all OVERLY positive (deluded) like you doesnt mean people are being negative.Last edited by Half Empty; 03-08-2009, 08:24 PM.Will change my user name to half full when QPR give me reason too...

BennyBoy. I think you're spot on with almost everything you've said on this thread.(I will exclude the Pete/Sousa arguments. I'm keeping out of it). I have not heard or seen anything yet to convince me we will make the playoffs. I refuse to get excited about pre season results, the opposition wasn't testing enough. All the talking has to stop and starting Saturday we will see if JM and the boys can walk the walk.
