  • Stewarding today

Felt was the most draconian we have come accross even worse then Liverpool
Never seen so many thrown out for so little , couple thrown out before game for what looked like nothing , I was by the utd fans benind the goal must have 10 rangers thrown out for doing nothing worse then the utd fans , bit of standing hand gestures usual stuff that goes on
    Was a fkn disgrace

Yep, and the fake fans in the home end were allowed to stand until we complained

I agree. The stewards at Old Triffod were like a bunch of old women most of the time.
Seems to me that most blokes in Manchester have been well and truly emasculated.
They'd be more suited stewarding jam making sessions at the Women's Institute.

I heard on the way out that the police had actually arrested a steward in our section following a complaint from fans

Was horrible. Saw a lot of fans kicked out for trying to make some atmosphere, it was pathetic!
We're Queens Park Rangers and we always do things the hard way!

The aggressive stewarding started before we had even got in to the ground as despite there being no queue at the turnstiles a few jobsworth were barking orders left right and centre that we were not in a line and had to be searched three times and anyone that complained would be refused entry

This attitude continued inside the ground and I saw numerous QPR fans being thrown out including one by me who asked politely for a steward in front of him to move over a little as he could not see the game

I was told by a policeman at halftime that the stewards have a zero tolerance policy to away fans and that includes any possible confrontation with them however innocent the discussion might be

Of course the Man U fans to our right were allowed to stand whenever they wanted and make their various gestures

Yes, one of the stewards was nicked by the police.

The thing about away fans is you get treated like dirt.

It's one rule for the away team and one for the home team.

Stewards just spoil a day out.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

For being to aggressive with a QPR fan. Didn't have the powers that the police had. I was told a copper saw an incident and intervened and then arrested the steward.

                        Huh?
Surely the plod didn't keep a straight face when he said that?
There is absolutely no logic whatsoever to that policy, none at all.
Still, another sign of the times we live in, I suppose.

Anyone got a time machine to take me back to the 1970's, please?

Atmosphere? At Old Triffod, the home of ManUre?
Take a dim view of that, do the Manc-Wancs. Wouldn't be surprised if our brave lads are sentenced to be horse-whipped from one end of Manchester, to the other, at the next assizes before Judge Albert (don't mither me now, chook) Tatlock.

The ####eers we get at Loftus Rd try and do that to some of us, too.

I was told by a copper that the Stewards/Security have total control at Old Trafford, there were some incidents yesterday were the police said things had happened and thought the stewards were out of order but they could not overall it unless it was of a violent disorder. I havnt come across such agressive stewarding like that for many many years
