I would genuinely take relegation right now as opposed to having to be a Swansea fan and having to watch this shite backwards-sideways-backwards-sideways-backwards-backwards oh **** we've been pressed too far up and miscontrolled the ball for a Newcastle thrown in. Boring as ****

There's their first effort at goal after 30 mins and they're at home. Get sick of all the hype, they keep the ball well and that's it! Of course Britton has most Completed passes in Europe, let's do a re-count and only include forward passes, no go on add in sideways too and the little twunt still wont be near the top

The above went on my facebook status whilst I watched that shite yesterday.

Now, I coach an 8 year old side and we play some very nice football and encourage lots of passing but what Swansea do is this philosoph taken to another level. It's basically fear of the opposition, not good football.

The attitude in this thread is a perfect example of why England are regularly embarrassed by Spain, Germany and the like.

Here's a team made up of nobodies who regularly make top Premier League teams play the game on their terms. All that 'passing it pointlessly across the back four' exerts control over the game, ensures it is played at the pace Swansea want, and draws teams out of position so that gaps appear at the back.

Has it never occurred to any of you that possession football is as much a defensive tactic as an attacking one? That teams can't score against you when they don't have the ball? Swansea have conceded fewer goals at home than Man U, Tottenham or Chelsea.

Still, I guess most of you would rather watch endless early Hollywood balls. Isn't that what we criticise Barton for doing??

I think either Swansea are being judged by too high a standard. 'How dare they be so cheeky as to try and play like Barcelona! Don't they realise Stoke are the model for new Premier League teams?'
...or its just jealousy on our behalf.

As you may have guessed by now, I absolutely love this Swansea side. Brendan Rogers for manager of the year

      PS
82% of Xavi's passes are sideways or backwards

There is a fine line between efficient possession football, like Barcelona and Arsenal play and then plain boring/going nowhere/like the sound of their own hype/more and more regularly lose possession on the edge of their own area Swansea.

Fair play they are staying up, and they have the foundations for improved football in the Prem for years to come BUT they HAVE to tweek their sytle to do exactly what you said - keep the ball to create those spaces as they shift opposition players around - They do that but then never make that pass when the space presents itself.
