  • If you were Hughes...

What team would you pick for the Man Utd game and what would you tell them?

I would pick exactly the same team as yesterday, maybe moving Barton too the wing and putting Mackie up front with Bobby later on. I would tell them to not let Man Utd take the lead as they are very good at maintaining leads; so we need to score first (Going too be hard)! Shoot at every possible opportunity; work extremely hard and most importantly play with no pressure!

we need to push onto them and not let them play at ease, these big clubs love to play at there own pace but when you upset them it mucks up there game plan then we can take advantage and break.Yesterday Arsenal would of battered us if we let them play but we tracked them all over the park and there ball players had no option but to go backwards.

Watch out for Chicarita and a few others(cough, cough) A player named Rooney among others springs to mind.
We should also challenge their cb´s as much as possible.

Id tell them theyre all going to have to listen to Celine Dions greatest hits CD from start to finish if they get anything other than 3 points. Believe you me, thats enough to get any team up for a game.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Play exactly the same. Don't give them time on the ball and put their CB's, an area they aren't at full strength, under pressure. BZ needs to bully Johnny Evans if he plays.

I also think SWP could play a key role. Being so small he can sneak up unoticed on Rooney in the tunnel and tie his laces together.

the key thing is to not get over-awed by the fact that they are united, leading the premiership at the moment, and have players like rooney etc. playing for 'em. as we saw last time around if we let united impose themselves early on then we will be in for a torrid time. getting at them like we did vs arsenal is definitely the way to go, maybe have swp on in place of mackie to start with. united will get plenty of chances (arsenal had a few, too) but we need to play it our way. and not have what we have seen so far this season - a good performance/result (vs chelski, stoke, liverpool...) and then an abysmal performance the game after. that's one thing we need to avoid this weekend!
                    come on you r's!

The only change I would make from Saturday is to swap Derry for Buz in order to keep Derry fit and fresh for Swansea 3 days later- plus I think Buz could have quite a good impact on a pitch where he could make the most of his passing.

Especially at Old Trafford, Man Utd use the full width of the pitch, all the time and we need to play the same team, in the exact same we we did v Arsenal and hope that lady luck is on our side.

Agree with that Paul, said the same myself, we looked very solid against arsenal

Truth is though, theres a huge difference when it comes to pressing teams on a small pitch than on a big pitch.

I would keep it exactly the same.
The big success for me was that row of Derry, Dakite and Barton all working a system to dispossess and cover each other, either defending or going forward. It was a very strict and structured system that stifled Arsenal's midfield.
Replacing Derry with Buzz would be a mistake imho, because it was the first time this season that Derry had a role which he looked comfortable in. Putting Barton out wide would break up this system and weaken what looked like a really strong midfield, again, for the first time this season.
Faurlin is my hero!!! Love him!!! #########
