Inspired by a blog post from QPR supporter Steve Heard, I put together some musings about QPR's apparent change in status - from club somewhat admired by neutrals as a nice family club with good fans to one much more widely mocked and reviled. Along the way, this is contrasted with the cult status enjoyed by German club St. Pauli. WARNING: If you tend to find yourself using the term "PC brigade" in an non-ironic way, you might not enjoy this article...

No one likes us? Do we care?
WRITING ABOUT QPR AND OTHER NONSENSE:

Not sure the writers correct in saying no one likes us.
Hughes is disliked by some quarters of football fans due to the way he portrays himself and who influence him but I don't think the way people look at Hughes has transferred to dislike of the club.
Warnock was disliked at the beginning by many but vast majority ofvthe football world warmed to him with the promotion against the odds and the way he man managed Adel last season.
Joey, is universally disliked but no one turned against Newcastle or city because he played for them. Football fans know why we signed him even if he is disliked.
The way the documentary was received just shows the football public has got a soft spot for us. Only our club could have pulled off a documentary like that and much of that is due to a general public admiration to west London culture defined the Sweeney, The Who or say Step Toe and Son, something very British. That picture in the 1970 b/w of the QPR/Chelsea game that was posted, showed it to mates at work from all over England they knew that summed up QPR. We have heritage and that will never change.
I accept the rivalry between us and our closest PL rivals has notched up and they want us destroyed but that's rivalry.
As to influx of money that's always going to upset certain fans from other clubs in a time when clubs are battling to survive as are members of the public. Man city was generally a well loved club but as soon as money started in pouring in and ambition crept in, people get jealous, wow. But vast majority who know their football still have a soft spot for city.
I don't like the concept that as soon as you face troubling times that somehow "no one likes us" mentality comes in. As a football club we are in a transitional period both on and off the pitch, some prefer all clubs to be like they use to. Other fans might be laughing at us but we tried to be successful but doesn't seem to have yet paid off, nothing to get protective or concerned about.
As to the writer referring to some german club no ones heard of was just bizarre and seemingly an attempt to throw everything into the pot and make a article about it. I dont understand why he didn't just concentrate on whether as a club he thinks we are disliked without turning it into a thesis on equality.
As a club we are extremely tolerant we are just a bit "rough" as another poster so eloquently described us on another thread.Last edited by TBLOCKRANGER; 16-03-2012, 09:31 AM.

not a bad blog post and interesting commentary on st. pauli.
i think that the larger teams are relatively ambivalent to us (**** aside) however it's more teams of a similar or lower peer level to us who are jealous of our success (or at least were until, say, last september) such as norwich etc. tended to slate us.
what was interesting when at the bolton and blackburn away games is i didn't really get any kind of ire directed towards us. as i say, ambivalence more than dislike for many. better to have that than the kind of attitudes towards manure that most tend to have!come on you r's!

Having stood on the terraces at the millerntor from the age of 8 and having a season ticket from pretty much the same age, I can see a few similarities between rangers and st pauli. Which range from our ground to our rivals both mainly being supported by people from the suburbs. Whereas many football supportes you may feel have a soft spot for qpr, I never really felt this was the case with st pauli personally. St pauli is a club that is famous because of its unique composition of fans and the political history. For lack of a better expression its the anti-establishment attitude that has endeared them to the masses. During the era I was going to games at st pauli the racist attacks at rostock occurred and it seemed right wing extremism may be on the increased, st pauli and their fans tried to show the world that they would not stand for it. However, not all that glitters is gold I'm afraid, as a child I experienced some of the worst abuse I ever have at st. Pauli. Me wearing an england scarf amongst others to games seemed to get me into trouble at a ground I was supposed to be able to celebrate my cultural diversity, instead I would have germans wearing celtic scarves taking it upon themselves to give their input to the troubles in n. Ireland by spitting, kicking and trying fight a child as young as 10. I soon grew sick of politicised football and grew to realise that a fair few extreme left wingers are just as ignorant as the skinheads they were trying to oppose. Give me rangers over that nonsense any day, the atmosphere against man city and chelsea this year was just as good as it is at millerntor.

didnt really read the article or posts properly so this is probably sh**e, but
the days of the far right , Skins etc being a problem at QPR are far gone....when i grew up.."skin / racist b.ashing " had replaced "pa*I bashing"
It would take some very brave and dumb racists to turn up at HQ and unfortunately we have some.....never seen them do anything except applaud black players etc..shows exactly how dumb they are !!
Anyway...nothing wrong with the flag....kill the f-ing nazi's i say
over to you now ...lol

Chelsea, Norwich, Fulham and maybe Villa (given recent history) may not be our greatest fans. Rest of premiership don't mind us. I certainly think we're playing the victim card to say that no one likes us. We're just feeling like the world's against us.....but there's only one reason why we feel like that..... 7 points out of a possible 57 should do it!!!

well
well knowone likes millwall because back in thev old den days anything that moved got bashed up,millwall also are the only club that tried to burn down another clubs stand by using a fire bombe that was of cause back in the middle seventies, millwall have also gone the length and breadth of the country bashing people up
so thats why knowbody likes them qpr ,chelsea, tottenham and west ham have also sufferd with some hooligan fans
but nothing like millwall,i think chelsea are the second biggest bullies in london
so they are the second most hated
both tottenham and west ham although have the combatatants they are very very in control and both clubs can show amazing sportsmanship
so most hated clubs in london are as follows
millwall
chelsea
qpr
tottenham
west ham
palace
arsenal..........................these are the top seven the otheres are respected as family clubs
