....pretty good workout for the lads, we dominated the game for the large part but it wasnt easy.
we played some very nice stuff at times, kept rolling the ball out from the GK and playing football on the ground - there was very little hoofing - even with fitz hall playing!
some notable performances:
BALANTA - looked very good, sharp, and i think he is finally coming to life as a player - he will be good for us this year - i can see him playing a fair bit.
GORKSS - solid as ever at cb and a nice header aswell, nothing fazed him today and well we all know what he can do.
MAHON - got stuck in as you would expect and made i think 3 crunching tackles in a row to get the ball! passing was good and also got forward a fair bit
MARSHALL - looked very accomplished and safe - would be a perfect understudy to cerny. controlled his defence superbly and i could hear him shouting constantly.
TAARABT - what a superb individual goal - must have turned about 4 players 5-6 times and a great finish - he is the quality we miss.
but for me just one downside - i wasnt impressed with any of the strikers at all im afraid - i know its only pre season but from what i saw we still dont have enough. none of them did anything of real note (apart from taarabt who played up front for a bit when he came on). not enough movement or finding of space.
but i guess we shall see wont we - but im not convinced.
also lee brown the young RB - played at lb today and looked very good imo. oh and borrowdale was ok - nothing more though - needs time but on todays evidence im not sure about him.
but main point for me was the football - nice free flowing passing football on the deck!
