    Negative time im afraid...

With just over a week to go until the 2009/2010 season gets under way, I find it worrying how we haven't strengthened key positions that we have known about since last season (striker) and positions in which players have been sold (left back, striker).

Let me start with the positive, which makes for a balanced argument;)

I'm happy as larry that we replaced Lopez with Faurlin because so far he seems to be capable and has shown flashes of brilliance (even though he has a minor injury we are told (already)). Trying not to be negative already

I wont miss Delaney so good sale. If i had to sell any defender, as long as it wasn't Connolly, Goorks or Stewart, I wouldn't have been upset.

However, according to the BBC we have declined to take on Vignal who set up Pellicori's goal last night. Ok, I havn't seen him play but a defender setting up a goal?! that's unheard of with our makeshift defense (no proper fullbacks). Fair enough by the end of the season Connolly was number one choice over both Borrowdale and Delaney so its not like they were providing competition for each other but still we NEED two left backs.

I cant judge Pellicori but we demand a name because when your top goal scorer is sold (before our other so called strikers) you have to be certain you are not taking a step backwards. And lets be real here, we scored the least amount of goals last season so we better hope we don't score even fewer now because I'm not confident are you???

Yes there is still time left but!!!!!! why have we left it so late to create a goal scoring strikeforce, get a backup keeper (lower priority of course) and another leftback.

Don't worry though guys we got another midfielder FFS

Give me Lita or someone similar and I will be content. Throw in someone like marshall just for backup and a decent left back and my dreams of promotion might not be so deluded as they are now. COS UNFORTUNATELY I STILL BELIEVE:very_sad:

We have scored in every game pre-season, which we did not do last season against some medocire opposition.

Season is over 46 games, not in August. I can understand the negativity, as last season was poor, but it won't be like that this season. Okay, we will have posters that will find delight in correcting me after one defeat, but its much more professional this season. Gorman is a great guy well respected, Magilton has got the respect of the players and importantly Flavio is taking a back seat and letting everyone get on with it. Of course he demands the best of his employees, but I sense a completely different approach this season.

I agree with most of what you said. My uncle and I were saying the other day that we could not work QPR out, we have the best backers, high sponsorships in multi million pounds, we are trying to go global by selling products in the east, and we have the right people in the right places (influence)..... yet, we brought in a manager that took ipswich down, and we still lack a decent left back and right back, and striker.... I just find it strange.

I still do not think the board know fully what they are doing or trying to achieve, I know they do not want to buy their way out of the leauge which is fair enough, but I still cannot believe that they did not go for it again this year.

I can only assume that it is part of the 4 year plan, maybe they are thinking of going for it next year?

There is no doubt that is excellent news however, on a level, if i substitute our top goal scorer with a big gamble (who you see as more of a squad player by your own admission) then how are we going to score more? Our midfielders shouldn't be our top scorers, i'm sorry but they shouldn't. I wont be complaining if they fire us to the top of the league but it won't be right.

Take your point about it being 46 games but all the evidence suggests we need more fire power. we were the poorest scorers in the football league and we have since sold by far and away our most prolific striker. If we wait 4/5 games to realise the bleeding obvious that we need more strike power, we will then find that no club will want to sell a striker so soon into the season, then the transfer window will close, then we will be into Christmas and everyone will have injuries and only slightly dodgy people will be available, probably at inflated prices, and then before you know it the season will be over again.
Also accept the board have made some v shrewd signings, both loan and permanent. My frustration is they have done 70-80% of the job, so why not finish it?

exaclty i feel defence, goalkeeper, midfield are pretty much honed to perfection bar the odd back up keeper and a first team left back but as it stands we havn't replaced dex nor built upon the strikeforce. we should have kept him and got rid of either agymang or helgy...good we sent dicarmine back but now we have two underachievers and an unknown who will, in the words of magilton, take time to settle.

My worry would be that all teams have to do to stop us scoring is crowd the midfield, especially easy for them at loftus road on the narrow pitch and with the onus on us to attack.

Scoring goals from midfield may well work against the less savvy of championship teams but over the course of a season I have my doubts

The big premiership clubs have not finished buying yet and they will have players surplus to requirements and be loaned out, so I'm not too worried. Man Utd for example are bound to loan one out, Chelsea will loan out Sturridge to get games, thats just an example.

I can remember Cox and Evans going so far to other championship clubs that I would have liked. Chopra went to Cardiff for 4 million, but I wouldn't spend that money on him would you?

our players have a totally different aura and body language about them his season

also for the pessimists can i just ask who burnleys top scorer was last season, not sure but no he didnt get 20, or even 15 for that matter

edit: martin paterson with 13 goals, im sure one of our strikers could get 13... also who was next highest scorer for burnley? well i can only see down to players who scored 10 and they had no one else there. so it was a case of players chippin in. it can be done lads!
