Gervais used the term in a strange and indirect way; said things like "Good monging everyone". He faced a shitstorm of contraversy afterwards so I'm unclear how it was found to be inoffensive? Irrespective of the word morphing into a description of some sort of druggy haze it undoubtedly still has unsavoury conoitataions. Basically, any right minded pesron will find the term unacceptable and anybody who has a connection with someone who has Down's or Cerebal Palsy will be deeply upset and offended. This has got nothing to do with censorship or political correctness but everything to with simple respect.

People use it all the time, and not in reference to people with Downs Syndrome. People just mean someone's an idiot now. The only way this should be found offensive if used directly about or to a disabled person.

i was watching soccer am when bartons tweet was read out on air just after frimpong had paid barton a compliment, what pisses me off is im getting nervous getting ready for the match which we need to win desperately but that bloke is ****ing about on twitter slagging someone off again when he should be focusing on the game ahead..his performances show he dont take his role and qpr seriously!

You are talking tripe and as PedalR so eloquently stated there was a lot of public outcry towards Gervais who, is at least of an age whereby in his younger days the word #### was commonly used as a derogatory term.... this still does not excuse him but puts the situation into some level of context....

Barton is our club captain and from a generation whereby the use of this and similar terminology is as unacceptable as racist remarks... Obviously folk are going to make reference to what Barton is saying on here but not Gervais....


To be honest I think that you are more likely to be the sort of person who will pick the bones out of anyone who offers a reasoned argument as to why this is unacceptable....... I hope that I am not sitting near you when one of our black or foreign players makes a mistake.....

Upon reflection I was probably a tad harsh making the correlation between your comments and taking it to a possible conclusion that, you might make inappropriate comments about people's ethnicity and or country of birth so please accept my unreserved apology....... In fact, I'd go as far as to say they are total #####.

The term is unquestionably offensive. To any idiots who are still trying to say it's harmless I'd say this:
If a bloke down the pub shows you a photo of his family and you notice his wife's black I presume you are not stupid enough to comment “I see your Mrs is a N......... then”. If you did, I also presume you'd not be surprised to get thumped.
If another bloke showed you a family snap and you noticed their little daughter had Downs and you asked if the girl was a #### you'd get an outraged reaction that was at least on a par with the first example.
If any of you are seriously still trying to suggest that it's alright to direct the term #### at another individual there must be something severely wrong with you. It's not even as if the “new” meaning of #### is anything laudable.... it's a reference to some sort of impaired mental capacity or function. The word was, and still is, ****ing horrible.
Finally, as I personally find the word offensive and I have no interest in seeing idiots attempting to justify it or make light of it, I'm going to “switch over”, find another channel and watch something more edifying.

Irrespective of the fact that someone might use this word in all innocence, what PedalR said is beyond argument. This particular term is "unquestionably offensive". If it wasn't, people would have no need to use it.

Re the Gervais v Barton tweet of pretty much the same thing and one being in a way accepted where the other gets slated.

Well isn't this the same in most things whereas its amazing how comedians can get away with so much, and live on stage too.

Maybe our Joey thinks he is a bit of a comedian and can get away with saying what he wants, well listen here Joey, you ain't funny so give up.
