  • Why Are WE Hooked On The "Big Name"??

For example we all seem to crave for Lita or Beckford, but how do we not know Pellicori is not rated in Italy? Likewise in regards to Fauarlin in Argentina?

It seems we get sucked into believing these players are quality, but is it more to do with the mass media of football we have in this country? I keep seeeing lets sign Vignol, is that based on where he has been in terms of his CV of clubs and not how he has actually played in the last two games?

Beckford is not a big name yet, he is an unproven kid who has scored a few goals in League 2. The thing is, he WILL BE a big player in 2-3 years and QPR are stupid for not gambling on him. He is younger and better than the wannabe Italian they just signed.

wannabe Italian? Surely he is either Italian or he isn't.
        Why would he pretend?
He speaks very good italian and likes his pasta so I don't think he is a wannabe italian
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Beckford is nearly 27 (edit: 26) whilst Pellicori is 28. Not much difference in age.

I'd still prefer Beckford, but that's only as I know more about him than the Iti.

lita and beckford are hardly big names,a cc and league 1 striker who have good strike rates, thats all,as apposed to a similiar standard Italian who does not have a good strike rate, the one our club have opted for.Only stated facts here,i dont have any idea how good or bad he is,we will just have to see does he score the goals for us before judging him.even if he does turn out to be ok,i STILL think we need that elusive QUALITY striker to make us play off material,im still optomistic Magilton realises this.

Vignal, the fact that gorman rates him.

The other two, cant pass judgment till weve seen em play for a couple of months.

Going on past imports...........dubios,and dont hold much faith in the clubs nous on these type of players......shot in the dark, comes to mind.
                  They seek him here.................

I suppose its because you have a known quantity playing in the CCC in the case of Lita against say a 28 year old that has stayed in the lower reaches of the Italian leagues where common sense says you would suppose if he were any good would have had a sniff at the top league by now.

Also his performances in the pre -season friendlies are not to the standard where you would commit to sign the player for 3 years IMHO.

In respect of the Argentinian lad this is such a strange almost surreal scenario 3.5 MILLION for somebody we have never heard of but we may have unearthed a gem we wont know for a while as he seems due to have a 2 month lay off through injury but how can we get excited about an unknown?

We have seen Lita score goals we have seen Cox score goals Lita is on a free (which we like) we pay big wages which he likes you would of thought it was the ideal match. I bet the acquisition of someone like Lita would have done more for ticket sales because we are talking about a known quantity.

Sometimes I think we are like children in a sweet shop but I think a proven goalscorer was at the top of everyone's list and to have got rid of Dexter for a modest sum which was disappointing we should be able to attract to the club someone who can excite the crowd.

Hopefully Angelo can fulfill that role from the reports coming through.

Paul Mason: "Beckford is not a big name yet, he is an unproven kid who has scored a few goals in League 2. The thing is, he WILL BE a big player in 2-3 years and QPR are stupid for not gambling on him. He is younger and better than the wannabe Italian they just signed. "

Sorry Paul, but this makes you come across as completely ignorant (and I'm not trying to insult you...)
How on earth can you make this sort of assertion?
How many full games have you seen Beckford play? Or is your opinion of him based on a few video clips you've seen of Leeds games on "The Championship"? How do you know he's good enough to play at a level he's never played at? If he was good enough, don't you think at least one manager somewhere in the world of football would have snapped him up?

And regarding Pellicori, how can you assert so strongly that Beckford is better?
How many full games have you seen Pellicori play? In fact, do you even know what he looks like?

I'm all for people having opinions...but they've got to be based on something other than a few statistics. Who knows, maybe Pellicori won't be much good and then you can say "I told you so". But until we've seen him play, let's not jump to any conclusions...or make sweeping statements based on absolutely nothing.

i think its all about proven players - players we can trust that will do well - which leaves less ifs and buts. We are going for promotion, and should be taking on players of known quality. I think we all knew Birmingham would get promoted, as they had lots of players that we knew would be good, and thats the kind of thing i want QPR to do. I think we have an excellent side now though, just a little weak in a couple of positions. If Vignal signs, il be very happy - and a striker of known goal scoring ability will be a bonus too

many reasons for a big name- 1) increases number of tickets sold, therefore increases revenue for the club, therefore we continue to grow and proceed.
                            2) boosts morale of players and fans, giving the club a positive enthusiastic feel, which could lead to improved results for everyone.
                            3) shows the club has ambition to get out of the league, like the above improving morale and also attracts new fans and a new better calibre of players to the club. further improving the club of course.
                            4) BIG NAME players are usually big names because they are PROVEN. Lita and beckford would get us goals in my eyes as may pellicori, who knows. But pellicori is more of a risk coming from abroad as we have found out in the past with players like parejo, dicarmine.

mikechaj - Wow, are you Pellicori's agent ?

I have seen beckford play many times, most recently at Wealdstone the other week when Leads played them and he is by far the best striker in League 2 (Cox was second best) and destined to play at a higher level. He is 26 he and a late comer to the pro game like Ian Wright and he was a complete donkey. I don't give two hoots how god or bad Pellicori is, in my opinion, Beckford is better.

Feel free to insult me as much as you want because I am allowed an opinion.
