In fairness tho' if they hadn't have prosecuted Harry for what clearly seems a - shall we say - unconventional tax arrangement of having payments put into an off-shore account in his dog's name some on here wd be the first to complain of double standards and one rule for the rich, another for the little guy etc.

What gets me about all these football related problems is the number of people who come out slating HMRC. Football owners and players (note: not fans) have taken the p out of the tax laws for a long, long time and, until recently, they were to be treated just like any other creditor, yet players cannot be treated as assets in the value of the club and FA rules mean that football players get their money first.
Basically, football has shat on the taxman for a while and we should all remember that he is only getting back what he's owed; there's no need for any slating, they are working for US ultimately.
And on Portsmouth, you can look in and criticise all you want, but the fact is they overstretched their club to the hilt to buy an FA Cup and a few seasons in the Premier League. None of their fans were complaining whilst things were going well and neither will we if the miracle happens and we are still in the Big League next season. But we should as Pompey could never afford the wages dished out by their owners in the same way we can't...

I don't think any club unfortunate enough to find itself in administration, should have any points deducted at all.
I mean, talk about kicking somebody when their down.

Cannot believe the amount of sympathy this club is getting. OK, it's not the fans fault, but that club are an absolute disgrace. Not long ago, having knocked many local businesses which were not able to recover, causing financial difficulties for other honest businesses, they came out of administration and almost straight away found a reported £39k per week to pay Kitson and Lawrence. Deserve nothing less than relegation in my opinion. Buying things and knowingly not having the money to pay is morally offensive at best, let alone the legal implications. They were happy to pay over inflated wages, not set aside money for taxes like the rest of us have to and cause great difficulties to many innocent people. And people feel sorry for them?

Football clubs have been given special treatment for too long. They should be treated like any other company, because that is what they are.
And the rubbish about football debts being given priority over other debts is a joke.So when they go into administration the transfer fees and players extortionate wages get priority over the small businesses that supply food, programmes etc..
Football needs to get it's house in order and stop living beyond it's means.Stop paying ridiculous transfer fees and wages and start acting the same way as a responsible business does and get your head out of the sand those that think fans own clubs.
You own the club?,then pay their fooking tax bill!.

Spot on.
Also to the comments saying they shouldn't be deducted points becasue it's not the players or fans fault.... see the bigger picutre will you. You're right that they aren't at fault, and ultimately suffer, but there needs to be this sort of significant deterant to "try" and prevent owners overstretching their means. After all they are the ones to profit from such acts and if there was no points deduction, they wouldn't give a toss as nothing to lose... sign players to maintain prem status and revenue, rack up massive debts, not pay bills, then just go into administration and only have to pay 10p in the puund on their debts, cause many local honest buinesses to go bust, then after slap on wrist come out of admin and repeat the process over the next few years.....! Do me a favour.
Also, what about the other clubs that have been run properly and suffered as a result and maybe just missed out on survival to a club like Portsmouth... They then lose massive revenue streams and may never regain that status. Huge significance becasue they did things right and just weren't good enough, while others of equal footing effectively cheated their survival and reaped the rewards as a result.
I thought there was a rule that a club gets 10 points deducted for going into admin, but if they did again soon after it would be 15 points? I think that is what should happen here. If it results in relegation tough, it's what they deserve.
