Imo it was a big mistale for Warnock to give him the armband in the first place. He already thought he was billy big b0ll0x and then Warnock gives him the armband, when he's not been captain before (that i know of) so no credentials, combined with the fact he is wreckless personality in general.

I think by doing so he possibly undermined even himself, by almost saying to Joey you're the main man at the club now.... He then saw fit to fuel Barton's ego further by stating in every interview for weeks that "If he were anyone else other than Joey Barton, he'd be playing for a top 4 club"... hmm yeah right Neil.
