  • 8 Prem clubs to go bust like Rangers?

What do you make of this then? Pedicting there are eight clubs who paid their players in the same way, who are being investigated by HMRC, could go the same way.Hopefully not us.

Wished they had named them? Probably clubs with lots of foreigners. Chelsea Arsenal
Man city Bolton may be among them?

The comments from fans at the bottom are quite amusing, all are hoping it's their worst enemy, or disliked clubs etc.Think they should make sure their own club is in the clear first

Someone in the know about the case and the abuse of such funds was talking on talksport the other day and said 2 London clubs had already made a settlement with the HMRC. I think one was thought to be Arsenal, and expect the other would be Chelsea or Spurs.

No doubt though, if there was a potential loophole to save money many clubs would've used it, hence the HMRC have now cottoned onto the fact and trying to claim back payments.

The difference is any top prem club, although not being happy to do so, could offset any owed debt or borrow based on expected earnings on the pending budget sheets for prem tv money, champions league revenue, placement money etc etc etc.... .Rangers can't as the SPL makes £4.37 annually, to be shared between clubs, and they are as a result fuc&3d and had no option other than administration.

i really don't know enough about tax/hmrc/loopholes/etc but what i do know is the premiership and the football league has been raking the money in for years at any expense.
maybe it's all going to come out like the banks a few years back - just a full on backlash across all the clubs.
football is now a business and therefore it takes risk.

who would have thought this 20 years ago.

If 8 Prem clubs have 10 points deducted we can wave goodbye to relegation and set off on a European tour!

Liverpool were very close a couple of years back, when under the ownership of the two cowboys. This is why when fans on here and other boards shout for players like, Bent, Defoe, Cahill and alike , and we cant sell out every home game , makes me wonder were they think this will all lead. When huge clubs like Rangers go into add.. and big clubs over here start settling with HM revenues, what chance a little club like ours?

As long as we've not had anyone dodgy doing our transfers and contracts in the last few years, there should should be no chance of us being one of the clubs using dodgy loopholes, and we'll be in the clear........

Why?? If we're spending say 95% of overall turnover on players and wages and deferring tax payments why not us??

Mine was not a serious point and was a very thinly veiled (apparently just enough though) jab at our beloved former chairman.

I have absolutely no idea if we are one of the 8 clubs, it would however not surprise me in the least to find out that we are.

As someone has commented on the piece and is trying to make other people who have also commented aware, this has absolutely nothing to do with debt, this is TAX something completely different.
It seems we on here are a more knowledgeable bunch as we seemed to have grasped that fact. That's what being hot headed gets you.

This article tends to indicate that the investigation is completed.

What I find hardest to understand is how Rangers (or any other club concerned) managed to get away with EBT fraud for 10 minutes let alone 10 years.
