"When Pompey and Leeds spent themselves into administration, they at least did it by spending on Defoe, Ferdinand and the like," writes my colleague Michael Hann. "QPR, by contrast, appear to be looking to shell out the gross national product of several small Central American countries on the wages of Cissé and (it seems likely) Zamora, who have a combined Premier League record of 66 goals in 289 games. Am I alone among QPR fans in suspecting that this might not be quite the wisest investment top-flight football has ever seen? I suppose the nicest way of looking at it is that with those two, plus Jay Bothroyd and Heidar Helguson, we'll have four international strikers at Loftus Road. If only I could say four top-class international strikers. It's all looking a bit like an Aldi Spurs, isn't it?" I'd have to say that none of the January signings at Loftus Road make you go: "Oooh, they'll stay up now" or "Well, that's them safe". They make you go: "Erm … O … K …"

Good enough to stave off relegation - not sure if they're good enough to make us upper mid table next season.

Doesn't know what he is talking about. A number of the players are loans and he doesn't know how much the Club paid or are paying the other players (only what is reported in the newspapers).

66 in 289 combined in the prem. Seems like we have a problem.. We are scared of signing prolific strikers.

I think he has a point with regards spending ...can't see how we can pay the type of wages being reported for the likes of Ferdinand, SWP, Barton, Cisse, Zamora and co on crowds of 15-18k (or even half the reported amounts!) ...for me its got Pompey written all over it!

Just hope someone at Rangers is doing the maths better than they did at Leeds & Pompey!

Hold on a minute. Our gates were never going to pay players salaries and you believed that then your living on a different planet. The FA brought in fair play rules (albeit clubs have worked out ways to get around that) and I am sure with the people we have in place running our club I doubt they would be doing what they are doing without a backup plan. They are not stupid so chill people and enjoy the day!

I'm getting a little fed up of reading moans and whinges about how we're going to survive on crowds of 15-18 thousand. It's not just about gate money. It's sponsorship, merchandise, commercial opportunities abroad, and of course TV money. To raise concerns about the expenditure and wages is to raise concerns about the ability of our board. I for one have faith in the board members, even if some don't. I'm sure they know what they're doing, but I accept that some of you think they don't.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

i read an article ages ago which stated apart from your man utds etc, gate money doesnt actually bring as much in between various clubs as you think, as your evertons etc will have cheaper prices etc, so were not that far off a club like that anyway, gate moneywise. not sure how true this is, suppose time will tell.

Our owners are not retarded, they've obviously done their sums and know exactly where they stand. I think the eastern market is where they're hoping to recoup most of their outlay. As long as the Mittals are involved, I'm not worried. You can't build a business empire that unless you know what you're doing!

I am not impressed with Zamorra, (has he signed yet?) look at his scoring record, we would have done much better with Pavlyachenko or Jelavic IMO

But hughes has to make it work and he has got the players he wanted presumably, I think Cisse will do the business
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks
