Its calling him a m oron ( cant beleive ,i know cant write that word in one go ! ) thats insulting him, because his views differ from yours, thats pathetic.
So calling someone a "po*ve" etc etc is fine but calling someone m*ronic for saying foreigners should be run off a cliff is not? Hmm.

Grasping that simple concept is the starting point and, in a nutshell, is the flaw in this whole debate - because, as I say, they're such arbitrary and subjective terms. It would save much judging and castigating on both sides.
OK, well I think its something like one in eight of the population is reckoned to be gay. That's a fact, not opinion. So for those 5-10m people in Britain it must be pretty natural. I think you are confused as the others mate.

There has been a lot more nasty insulting words used in this thread against homosexuals than m*r*n to be fair.

OK, happy to withdraw use of the word "m*ron" and apologise for using it. I'll settle for "ill-informed" or "sadly-misguided" or "un-charitable". Take your pick. Perhaps now those who think its acceptable to take random swipes at foreigners or gays will also have a little re-think?

I don't believe it's anywhere near that many, probably only half that, although that may be only those who are open about their sexuality.

It's still a sizeable number of people in any case.

Good man Stainrod as i said yesterday you are normally well balanced in your thoughts and post interesting and well thought out replies.
Anyway i had enough of this and going to concentrate on transfers in, hopefully.

                  • Vblock,

Out of interest, if your son informed you that he was gay, would your views on the subject differ at all? Would you resort to using some of the less unpleasant terms to explain your views to him, or give him a bit of support and understanding?

Personally, I don't think there would be a hope in hell of me allowing people to talk to any of my children in those terms, should it have ever or in the future be an issue. I would imagine that you, deep down, would be exactly the same.

With regards to this thread / subject, I think that in the main it has been conducted better than some I've seen on here in the past, that were in relation to far less sensitive issues. Probably be very helpful to avoid future conflict though, if people would stop using unnecessary terms, such as p**f, as they only really serve to detract from the debate.

Tried not to pass on any views to my son as he was growing up so that he could discover his own standpoints ...did worry about it though but he has turned out a healthy heterosexual sowing his seeds through Uni as he goes ...if he had come to me to tell me he was gay then of course i would have backed him and supported him unconditionally. And can we add the word M o ron to the list of unnecessary words used in this thread? one rule for one and all that if even they are Moderators :-)

Of course. It shouldn't be used by anyone to anyone else on here. In fairness, Stainrod (who I assume you are referring to), not only retracted that earlier, but was probably incredibly frustrated (no jokes please), that people just cannot see how wrong, unfair & nasty it is to have those views in this day and age. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but one would hope that it is formed through a logical process rather than just vilify any group of people for no reason.

As you have now conceded above, perhaps if your son had needed to come to you on this subject, your contribution to this thread may have been very different, don't you think?

guess we will never know Brighton. Maybe on the outside but inside im sure that i would still feel it was wrong. I view homosexuality as a defect in character so i would have been dissapointed of it in my son. Still early days yet. he's only 18 anything could happen
