      No such thing as new and improved. If it's new, it didn't exist before and therefore can't be something that's improved

            No, if it's improved on the previous, it's an improvement, not new. If you put new tyres on your car, it's an improvement, not a new car. If you buy a good new centre back it becomes an improved defence, not a new defence, because the defence already exists.

            Unless of course you replace the whole defence, which would be new, and probably an improvement on the last one!
