You can only judge a party on what they're currently doing. I feel much safer with the Tories getting us out of the mess that Labour left us in. Had Brown been in power much longer we would probably be well on our way to being in a far worse position than the Greeks, Italians and Spaniards!

Sad state of affairs if you're gonna stereotype all people because of their educational background.
So next you're gonna tell me that James Beattie, Victor Moses and Frank Lampard are all gay because they went to private school?
Very narrow minded of you.
If it wasn't for the public schools you wouldn't have the game of football. It was the public schools that gave the world football.
The earliest evidence that games resembling football were being played at English public schools — mainly attended by boys from the upper, upper-middle and professional classes — comes from the Vulgaria by William Herman in 1519. Herman had been headmaster at Eton and Winchester colleges and his Latin textbook includes a translation exercise with the phrase "We wyll playe with a ball full of wynde".[25]
Richard Mulcaster, a student at Eton College in the early 16th century and later headmaster at other English schools, has been described as "the greatest sixteenth Century advocate of football".[26] Among his contributions are the earliest evidence of organised team football. Mulcaster's writings refer to teams ("sides" and "parties"), positions ("standings"), a referee ("judge over the parties") and a coach "(trayning maister)". Mulcaster's "footeball" had evolved from the disordered and violent forms of traditional football:
During the early 19th century, most working class people in Britain had to work six days a week, often for over twelve hours a day. They had neither the time nor the inclination to engage in sport for recreation and, at the time, many children were part of the labour force. Feast day football played on the streets was in decline. Public school boys, who enjoyed some freedom from work, became the inventors of organised football games with formal codes of rules.
Football was adopted by a number of public schools as a way of encouraging competitiveness and keeping youths fit. Each school drafted its own rules, which varied widely between different schools and were changed over time with each new intake of pupils. Two schools of thought developed regarding rules. Some schools favoured a game in which the ball could be carried (as at Rugby, Marlborough and Cheltenham), while others preferred a game where kicking and dribbling the ball was promoted (as at Eton, Harrow, Westminster and Charterhouse). The division into these two camps was partly the result of circumstances in which the games were played. For example, Charterhouse and Westminster at the time had restricted playing areas; the boys were confined to playing their ball game within the school cloisters, making it difficult for them to adopt rough and tumble running games.[citation needed]

However. I do know a fair few people in academic circles who worked in the priniting industry - and their opinion, without exception, is that the unions refused to embrace a more progressive, sustainable approach to the trade. Basically, if a few jobs were to go then the whole trade must die.... which it basically has.
I'm not sure that can be wholly blamed on the Tories if what I have been told is correct.
I hope all is well now though
Thank you all is very well. No more Tory bashing back to footballLast edited by andover66; 23-01-2012, 08:40 PM.

As a percentage of GDP it was Liberal and Tories that created the most debt and fell to a modern time low under Blair’s Labour in 2002.
Discounting the debt caused by WW1 and 2 even in 60's and 70's under the Tories it is twice what it was under Blair. The recent increase is twofold, one caused by eradicating times to see a consultant and having operations, nothing which the Tories did in all their years in power. Second by the greed and excess of major financial institutions which parties of all hues did nothing about. It is the latter which has got us in the mess that we are in and which hits the normal working fan the most and they pay proportionally the most for it. If not for the likes of *****Ma and Northern Rock that explosion in borrowing would not have occurred. What would you have done then to saving peoples life savings and pensions from disappearing down a black hole.
In fact Blairs Government is the only post modern Government to pay off and reduce debt created by the Tories. That is a bloody inconvertible and inconvenient fact over looked and not mentioned because it does not fit in with peoples prejudices.
If you want to sound off about politics always check your political and economic facts first otherwise they are seen for what they are empty vessels making the most noise.Populus fui meus nomen , tamen meus nomen est non meus nomen
