OK so last window was unfortunate as we were scrabbling to sign anyone available before it closed, and this one is a bit different because we're properly in the s***, but going forward I'm hoping the club makes it a policy not to sign anyone over the age of 26/27 on a fee.
Players like Luke Young, Joey Barton and SWP are all probably past their best and have no resale value. I'm hopeful that under Hughes the signings will improve and I see Warnock's lack of nous when it comes to overseas markets as one of the significant factors in securing his exit. As it stands our squad is pretty ancient in footballing terms and I think that maybe the desire has gone from some of them. Although they've had a fair bit of luck the club should be looking to Newcastle and how they've managed to get results on a small budget.
