Icing on the cake or building from scratch

Warnock said in the week that all the hard work has been done and that now the new manager is only going to be adding the icing on the cake. Hughes talked more about having to build from scratch.

Who is right in your view?

Warnock knows just how bad and lowly we were so I guess he sees turning that round as the big achievement. Fair enough. But looking at the team today - albeit weakened with international call ups, injuries and suspensions - it was a Championship side, and a fairly average one at that.

I think the problem has been we have actually bought too many players - all of fairly average quality. Its never easy bringing in good players to a struggling club but this time if the club is really determined to stay in the Prem it will have to pay (probably through the nose) for half a dozen really good quality players. Otherwise its more Hartlepool than Liverpool for us next season. On that basis and given the shambles of the coaching regime under Curle etc I can see why Hughes did say he was starting from scratch.

Lets hope he can do so in time...

Think if Warnock really thinks it's a case of a bit of "icing on the cake", he was even more detached from realitity than I thought! The team, even with all the absentees, looked so much more organised and with a decent, fast finisher, we could easily have won by a couple today.

We lack qualiteee, what we need is some qualiteee players, so I suggest we go out and buy some qualiteee players

I will say our most decent Prem quality players who can do a job for us are Kenny, Ferdinand, Young, Traore, Barton, Taarabt, Swp, HH and DJ

I dont think any others in the squad will ever satisfy us to play at the level we need for the Prem

The biggest problem we've had has been the timing and chain of events with respect to the takeover and August transfer window .

Had the takeover happened at the end of the season we would not have signed Bothroyd , DJ , Gabbidon , Perone etc ... Now we are stuck with these doiughnuts on our wagebill along with the Hulses etc .

We need 6 or 7 players in my opinion and thats not trying to sound like a spoilt brat its just the gulf between Prem and Championship is a chasm !!!

In all honesty if we had not been promoted last year and we had added the above players to our existing squad I would have been disappointed in the championship ..let alone the Prem .

THe only existing squad players capable of playing at this level week in week out with the right management and coaching who should be in our starting 11 from Feb 1st would be Ferdinand , SWP , Traore, Barton , Kenny (possibly )Young (possibly) .....and yes I've left Adel out deliberately !!

Mark Hughes has got the biggest challenge of his career !!

But Norwich and more so Swansea have barely changed their sides from last season, and the players they have bought were Championship quality.

And look how they are doing? One is 11 points above us and the other 9. If they can do it with Championship squads why havent we?

People may not want to
