  • Damion Stewart..

IMO done nothing wrong to get dropped, and was totally fantastic with Gorkks last season.
But on threads talking about next seasons team everyone seems to be dropping him.

Surely Stewart and Gorkks should start cb? With Connolly RB? Or if people are worried about our LB spot put Connolly there with a much improved Ramage slotting in at RB!
Cant believe it, ive been PWOPER MUGGED ORF...

He starts for me but his form can dip so nice to have some options

I think Stewart should start aswell, with Gorkss in the middle. Connolly i reckon could do a job at right back, but still if Damion's form dips then Connolly can move back to the middle

stewart was solid.. but u just have that fear he will do something stupid and just make that huge mistake.. i dont have that with either connolly or gorkks.

stewart more than deserves to be on the team-sheet. serious clangers nonwithstanding (touch wood) it's only worth dropping him if we happen to become so strong in the full-back positions that connolly has to go in the middle. i should coco.

the other thing about stewart is i suspect he's very much a confidence player that benefits from a long settled run in a side - i think he might become a liability if we start using him as a squad player.

so let me get this right, and please correct me if i'm wrong, as i'm willing to learn here,

you want to shoehorn our best defender by a country mile (Connolly for those not paying attention...) into a position where he's ok, but not spectacular, so that we can accomodate an inferior player into our best defender's natural position?

i like Stewart, he's a good player, and a lovely bloke. but Connolly & Gorkss is the best centre half pairing we have, and probably the best pairing in the leauge. they should start together, in the middle.

Forget w12 this wins Post of the year.
I was reading through the others thinking is it just me?
Jeff is spot on and couldn't of put it any better.
I don't want to harp on about playing centre back at ryman level but in 20 years of playing the position I feel I have learn't quite alot.
I am NOT saying Stewart is a bad player but Connelly and Gorkks are the best central defence pairing in the league. They both read the game fantastically well and the most important thing is that they both show composure on the ball which Stewart just does not have. That is why Rio Ferdinand is a class centre back as he has both to a tee.
I know I can have strong views that upset people but I do feel strongly on this topic. It would be a terrible waist to play connelly as a full back and it is a shame we couldn't sign the young man u defender as he was comfortable on both side and would of been a useful addition. Well said Jeff and best post I have read on this and other message boards!
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

                  Agreed Jeff.

I bet that if we were to ask Connolly be stuck out in a position that he doesn't want to play he will be looking for a new club come January.

Connolly is reaching an where we should be playing him in his best position week in week out.

I like Stewart but he is now third choice

this is a tricky one! Connolly and Gorkks are clearly more composed and better technically - however i think Stewarts dominance in the air and threat from set pieces is very valuable. Stewart got player of the year last year, and itd be harsh for him to be dropped. He can be inconsistent, but at the end of the day, he gets the ball away and does his job well. He was clearly our best player for a lot of last season. Connolly isnt as good at right back, but to be honest, id like all 3 of them to play - and if thats the only option, id probably put connolly right back as i still dont rate ramage anyway

I don't rate Ramage but the question is Dando are you happy to risk upsetting Connelly with a chance of losing him? Forget player of the season that was utter garbage. If Gorkks settled in a little quicker he would of walked it.

While Connollyis by far our best defender, the only thing that worries me about him at CB is his physical presence and heading ability.

i definately see what you are saying, and nope - no way would i want to upset connolly. But how do we know for sure that connolly doesnt want to play there? If true - then i agree. Gorkks was excellent, and probably would have won player of the year, but i dont think anyone can deny that Stewart was outstanding last year for the first three quarters of the season - and he always looks dangerious from set pieces.
