  • we don't need any new players

New players are not the answer. We have already got a squad of players who should be well capable of operating at Premier League level. I think Mark Hughes is being very sensible, taking his time, seeing who's out there, making a couple of very speculative offers, but essentially biding his time. I am sure he'll take a very close look at our players in the next couple of games, and then make a decision. But the worst thing he could do would be to bring in a number of new players so soon after his arrival.

And the problem with the current squad is not that they're no good, but that they are for whatever reasons hugely underperforming. It's much more important that he sort this problem out first. If anyone continues to play poorly - and I include just about everyone - then they need to be replaced. But first sort out the style of play, the tactics, the plan, the formation, the team spirit. If all this can be improved with our present team, we'll be in the Premier hat next season. And then maybe rebuild.

I don't mean this Sunday, or next Tuesday (which are both loseable games, though I'd like a shot at Chelsea again), I mean over the season, when we have Joey back, and one of the players who must up their game.

The table doesn't lie but it does belie our position. We have not been playing badly unlike some of the teams around us. We have just not been playing well enough, and not at the standard our players should be playing at, and I don't blame the players. For all that I love Neil Warnock, and I believe everyone's outpouring of grief has been genuine, he was out of his depth at this level. Hughes is at home at this level, and I'm sure our current players will respond. Look at the table in a month's time. We'll be moving up.

Have to disagree, most of our players are not good enough. We need at least five new players IMO. We have no decent strength in depth and that's key to staying in the premier league. We have far too many players in the squad who are only championship standard.

and the championship one's will struggle to get into the better teams in that league...we do need a few and will get them but as usual there is a big panic on this site. lets get the right one's in even if it takes a little while longer.

I think OP has a point. If we had played any of the prem teams outside the top 8 at LR last season with last season's players (say in a FA Cup quarter final we were taking seriously) I think we'd have comfortably won,,,, I think our winning mentality, indominatable spirit, confidence and miserly defence would have seen us through.
It's therefore a tad exasperating that our "improved" squad of this season can't buy a win. I'd hope MH will be able to get our shape and heads straight and oversee an upturn in performance/results (even with current squad).
