  • Mark Hughes blocks the sale of Jamie Mackie.....

..... to West Ham for £2m according to the Sun, which is interesting as he must have seen something he likes / could not replace.

I never knew he was up for sale and if true, this must have been going on behind the scenes when NW was at W12 ?

TBF to Mackie, we all have had the odd dig of late becasue he was Warnock's favourite, but it was never his fault he was played ahead of SWP, when he shouldn't have been. However, he does have his qualities and MH probably likes the work ethic, endeavour and the fact he can score.

Personally i think he'd be far more effective as an option off the bench to bring on against tiring defenders and let him chase and close down as he does best, which would lead to them making mistakes for us to exploit. I'm not surprised he's blocked any sale, but don't think he'll start him when everyone is available.

I would snap their hands off for 2 million. He'll never be a Prem player. Has had his chance and just not good enough. Time to give SWP a chance in his proper position.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

Gents, just because he's blocked a supposed sale, doesn't mean it won't happen. He may just want to wait until he's seen more of him in training, afterall, the window is open another 2.5 weeks. He may wait a week, then decide he's not what he needs and sanction the sale.... if even true.

I agree about SWP playing on the right, but Jamie Mackie is a striker not a winger, that's where NW played him to fit the 4-2-3-1 formation he liked.

This is the bit I never understood about NW, the way he presses and chases lost causes, he would be a CB and GK worst nightmare and it would not be a bad option to play up with or behind DJ or HH.

As u said about him coming off the bench with 20mins to go is the best for the team

What no criticism for the new man? Blocking the sale of "Warnock's love child?"
                    No frothing at the mouth?

It'd be interesting to see if and how Hughes uses the lad.

Must be his work ethic, pace and mentality which have "impressed" Hughes. Hardly his touch and tecnique I guess.

In the CC he was also used as a fullback in a couple of games, and did it quite well.
Question is; could he have a future in defence as well? He´s got pace. By far Not enough to make a good fullback but it´s a beginning..

I must be alone in thinking that Mackie has done ok since his return. He has both created and scored goals and never gives up so for me, with some better coaching, I think he can develop into a very useful squad player. Let us not forget that he came to us from a side in league one and is still learning.
