In the bottom line of the Telegraph article it says that Hughes actually has a maximum of £10m in this transfer window with substantial funds supposedly promised in the summer. Phil Beard is also quoted in the Chronicle saying that fans shouldn't expect transfers any time soon as its a slow process etc etc and it cd be more like the summer when there was a flurry on the last day.

Am not doubting the difficulty as other clubs are not going to bend over backwards to help us take their good players but this does disappoint me - these games coming up are the ones where we have to pinch a couple of wins. Most of all I'm worried about the midfield now - short of lumping it up to the strikers I just don't see how we are ever going to get the ball out of defence.

Any selling club in trouble, will want time to find replacements, they wouldn't wait till the last minute would they?

They sacked Warnock because they absolutely could not contemplate going down so I can't see how they can bring in a top class manager who would of demanded certain assurances to then not back him in the short term.

Its very clear, the squad we have got is not strong enough to stay up comfortably. New manager syndrome will only last for a few games after that its a dog fight.

I'm confident we will see some incoming players before the end of the month.

We'll definately have a 2/3 in by the end of the month- which fingers crossed will be enough.

Would prefer a couple of quality loan deals, not like Macheda, but proven Prem players like De Jong or Ireland for example, as opposed to paying over the odds for players who won't be needed come July or next January and will be stuck on our books like so many others over the years.

End of the month, I agree, but that's already too late for Newcastle, Wigan etc. Am not criticising the club as why would you pay a million more for a player now than you would have to at the end of the month. Or in the case of Onouha if City simply decide not to sell him for four games, you either abandon that player and go for say Bassong who might lack Onouha's versatility, or wait and miss valuable points. Its all v tricky.

I believe that Tony and Mark have talked on what players needed to improve the team and move up the table and I believe on budget that not on the table just what players we need. I do believe the money be there to get these players.

Hughes is merc enary..he would nt take the job if there was a chance of going down....

he / they must believe they have the cash and contacts for loans to avoid relegation. if we get 10 in on loan i dont care..as long as we stay up....

SO..The target is still 17TH..any more is a bonus this season......

We could win the next 4 games, but, we could also get hammered 5-0 in the next 4 too..

Lets take survival as the priority, by hook or by crook !!

Keep the faith brothers (and sisters) !

I can see a couple of loans with views on permanent in the summer if they succeed, that is depending on the loan rules.... did hear only 2 and Macheda has taken one of these, but hopefully that's not the case?

That said, Hughes may actually get Macheda playing well.

But if as is more likely we don't get Samba, and spend 3m on Alex, 3m on Onouha, a couple of million on Johnson, loan for Bridge, maybe one other player, hopefully a midfielder, that sounds about right.

                          can't see this being true.
We've never spent cash and splashed it - we won't do that. people need to realise that no, we are not going to spend £50m this transfer window.

but we will spend, and buy players.
I don't think there's a strict cap on expenditure, but there is an amount the board have in mind. if needs be they'll go above. but that's the call they'll make.
