  • New rail link from London to Birmingham.....QPR

Reading tonight that this is going to make a part of our borough change massively. Transport links are going to improve dramatically.

The main hub will be at Old Oak Common with a station bigger than Euston and Kings X. This will connect rail links from Heathrow over to Cross Rail and then then the new line up to Birmingham.

Surely, this is even more of a reason to get a cracking on a new stadium in the local area.

The plans look great and is going to regenerate the last part of Hammersmith and Fulham and the benefits to QPR now with Westfield on our doorstep are massive.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

Whilst causing considerable disturbance, disruption and unsightly visions through west London, ruislip, the chalfonts and beyond?

With attitudes like that it's no wonder that Inter City rail services are so so much better on the continent. (Something which Brits always moan about)

It's going to give lots of jobs to people in certain trades who are really struggling at the moment. So many benefits for the economy and the local area.

Only parts of the countryside will be damaged. Small price to pay.

So sick of people moaning when governments try to develop something in this country that badly needs addressing, and while they do it will create alot of jobs!!!

Easy to say when you're not affected, Lee. I know a bloke who's worked hard his entire life to build his dream home and it's taken years of hard graft. Now this line is going to take away a lot of what he's created. I'd be fuming if it was me.

Can see what you're saying mate, if it was my back garden id be fuming, naturally. But whatvi mean is 90% of those creating about it are not directly affected by it, thy just wanna use it as a stick to beat the powers that be with. Can only be a positive if you ask me. Although a good percentage of the work will go to foreigners, that's what really winds me up. Same with Olympics jobs and the westfields, comfortably 75% foreign labour on them sites.

I agree mate. Just saying when you're affected like that, it's not on. Poor blokes proper stressed over it all. It's an amazing place n all. My uncle had his wedding reception there a couple of years back.

How does it affect him? Surely not through his land? And even if it affects his view etc can he not claim some sort of compensation? Small consolation but better than nothing surely? Don't know how the law works on this ?

Right at the end of his land and in the way he chose that area to be away from that sort of stuff. He'll get compensated, but he's not short of a few bob. Plus he's 65 and that was his bit of tranquility.

Suppose at his age the dough won't mean one jot to him. It is sickening to think the poor bloke has worked his knackers off all his life just to have the rug ripped from under him like that, it is Out of order . On a selfish point of view though I think it will be great

This is a complete white elephant. It will blight the landscape and ruin the lives of people for years while its being constructed and all to save 20 minutes from London to Birmingham.

No government construction project has ever come near to being completed on time or on budget and the funny thing is California are having the exact same discussion now and here is a snippet regarding their costs - "Cost. Originally, voters were told the project would cost $33 billion, with state government, federal government and private enterprise sharing the cost roughly equally. New projections put the price tag at $98 billion, with no accurate assessment of how much each entity would pay"

If this goes ahead, it will go down as one of the most costliest mistakes ever.

I wouldn't go as far as great. Convenient for us on some away days, but it's hardly going to make life wonderful for us. Granted, it'll give jobs to some, but they won't last forever either.

I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble

Sorry! Is this a train line or an airport they are building?

How noisy and unsightly is a train? I actually quite like seeing trains race across our countryside.

Some of those posh tw@ts in the Chalfonts want to try living next door to Heathrow.
