Some say this squad is good enough to get us promoted, some predict mid-table mediocrity again. Both groups are right - and wrong. What it boils down to is team spirit.
Just a few seasons ago John Gregory inherited a poor team destined for relegation and after the horrible defeat at relegation rivals Southend in February I was praying for a miracle - and the miracle did happen, he and the boys managed to turn things around and finish the season on a high note.
Team spirit - we needed it then, we need it now, we will always need it.
You can have a bunch of great players and still go down the drain, like Leeds did, like Newcastle is doing. The truth is, our team right now is good enough to go either way - or nowhere. If the managerial merry-go-round continues, if the club fails to shrug off the image of an Italian circus, if the owners persist in meddling instead of letting this umpteenth manager do his job, we can kiss the team spirit goodbye, along with our promotion chances in the foreseeable future, no matter how many Italian or Spanish starlets we sign.
