  • Even if Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed tomorrow...

...there's no guarantee we would stay up. Hughes is no better than Warnock. Newly promoted clubs regularly go down and then come back up again. Think West Brom, Birmingham, Sunderland, Wolves, Bolton etc. So there was always a good chance we would do the same. In which case, who is going to get us promoted again once we are down? If the board had really had a long-term strategy, they would have kept Warnock. Instead they are gambling...

Gamble might work though. Not saying I agree with the decision. Just that there is a possible happy ending to the story for everyone bar Neil Warnockand his team.

It seems to be working for Sunderland but didn't work for West Ham last year. It's 50-50 whether it will work at all and that's no better odds than with Neil in charge. At least Warnock has experience of relegation battles. I just can't get excited about Hughes at all...

We had to gamble...if we just take our medicine and accept going down then there was no point comimg up in the place.

The one thing I will say for Hughes is that he has one thing Warnock doesn't. Premier league experience. Experience is key for our survival imo.

Warnock had Premier League experience with Sheffield United.

Sunderland's gamble seems to be paying off.

O'Neill is inspirational and has won cups and league titles in England and Scotland. Hughes has won nothing and was not good enough for Fulham. It's only worth gambling (and causing all that disruption) if you can get a Manager considerably better than the one you had. Hughes is not...

Hughes took Blackburn over with the target to keep them in the PL; he done so... 4 years running. He also gave them a top 6 PL finish in his second year in charge; not to mention taking them to an FA cup & a League cup semi.

He finished 8th in the league with Foolham. Not good enough?

Sacking Warnock was nasty, ungrateful and plainly just wrong imo, Hughes isn't in his league.

Wizard, what's you yellow lots general take on the sacking; do you think it'll return to bite us in the backside or the general consensus that we will be a better side for it?

Hughes has managed Man City, Fulham, Blackburn ALL in the Premiership, he has far more Prem pedigree that Neil. I loved NW and thank him for what he has done but he was out of his depth in the Premier League, unfortunately. One win at home since March is just not good enough I am afraid, especially when those games include v Derby, Hull, Leeds, Bolton, Blackburn, Norwich, Villa, Newcastle, WBA !

Is Hughes any good at tactics from corners?

One of many things that can be improved upon!
