The players we've made bids for, or made enquiries on, are hardly sought after. No one is beating down doors for any of them. We've made a bid for Samba, who else has? We've made a bid for Onuoha. So far only Wolves have as well. Where is the stampede for Alex? How about Bridge?

I accept it's early (doors?) in the transfer window, but I'm not sure if there'll be much transfer movement this time around. Fergie himself said today that not many decent players are on offer.
The players we've made enquiries for are hardly sought after? Spurs want samba, and garunteed if they want him they'll get him over us. We're linked with Hoilett, one of the most sought after players in the league at the moment. We wont get Onuoha because his mum is ill and wants to stay up north. I don't think we'll get either Samba or Alex due to the fact that we wont pay 8-10 mil for samba and I can see Alex going back to Brazil. Fernandes is playing it smart, make a silly bid for Samba, make fans believe he's serious, then buy someone else for over half the price and everyone says 'at least we put in a bid'. If we were serious about the samba bid we wouldn't have made it public, same with parker in the summer.

Interesting that Del that is exactly what TF's "enemies" were saying he did with the Parker bid in Aug.
      Suppose time will tell

Ok, so Spurs have made enquiries, but hardly a stampede is it?

It seems you think TF has a hidden agenda. I disagree. He wants to do his best for his, for our club. Why on earth would he have bought us if his intention was to do us down?

          Thanks for clarifying Richard.

Transfers are a bit like bazaars. There's always a bit of haggling before both sides agree a price. Blackburn want 10m I think, we offered 6m, so the compromise could be 8m.

Then Spurs might come and nick him

I always understood that you could "inquire" with the agent, but you could not approcah the player directly.

Surely if you were not allowed, at the very least indirect contact, then the whole transfer process would be a complete mess and nothing would get done?

You might be able to make an enquiry with an agent, but my understanding is that the agent can't approach the club before the window opens. I might be wrong, but I'm sure that counts as an approach.

If all this was allowed to go on, a lot of the business would be done in the first day or two of the window opening.

PS. An Inquiry is an Investigation. An Enquiry is a Question

There is no way we would be making a offer if samba was not interested.

It is well know in football the clubs seek out the players agent if they would be interested in joining their club before making an offer rather than wasting everbody time signing somebody that have no real interests in joining you

I think you're right. I'd guess Samba, through his agent, has said he's interested, then it moves on to the clubs to sort out a price, then back to the agents for contract talks.

Since when do you start to negotiate by bidding high from the offset? All you would do then is highlight you have loads of money to spend for them and any other club we want a player from.

Not sure why people suggest by offering low we will then leave the door open and let Spurs in to nick him.... Well the doors been open for them and everyone since Jan 1st. Besides, even if we bid £10m and it was accepted, his agent will be calling Spurs and others saying that's the acceptable transfer fee, if interested what will you offer as personal terms..... Of course they will to maximise their own slice!
