  • Warnock's job under threat

IF TRUE - big if - this is the worst possible news: losing faith in Warnock but still sticking with him, just pulling the plugs on all his transfer targets bar loans (and presumably ending any chance of signing players such as Alex).

Personally think they have to make their minds up damn fast then back their decision - either decide Warnock is the man for the job and give him the funds he needs. Or tomorrow go and try to hire Mark Hughes - in reality it will probably be someone like Zola instead - and give him the funds and the time to build his squad.

Just keeping Warno on like the Venkys are doing with Kean and not backing him in the transfer market is a recipe for relegation.

Pure speculation, just as Joey Bartons supposed transfer request, once again, journo's stirring the shite to unsettle us and get a story, doubt if NW would have been flying to manc for onuoha and talking to alex if he was on his way, total and utter bo##ox !!!!
He will be here till the end of the season whatever !!!!

Hope you are right scuberry but whereas the Barton thing was just some tweet by a non entity this is a story in a newspaper (albeit the Star) which goes into quite some detail - it says the board have sanctioned the Onouha bid because he isn't a "quick fix" whereas presumably they felt some of the other targets were - Andy Johnson anyone?

Would find that story totally understandable and has been my biggest fear for a month hence why I think Warnock if to be sacked should have gone at start of Dec

                personally I wouldn't let Warnock near 20m

summed up well by a poster on LFW (RangersAreBack)

"As Phillip Beard said the goal of the board is to remain in the Premier League at all costs.

You must put yourself in Tony's position. You put your faith and money in a manager you didn't choose only to see the team struggle. You have every right to question whether throwing more money Warnock's way is the answer.

Our lowly position in the table means that the board must now consider a contigency plan for the championship. It also means that we'll struggle to attract quality players unless we offer them astronomical wages. The board simply can't gamble on many more players on big wages as the threat of relegation is very real.

Warnock has made it clear several times that he is only in it for the short term before he finally retires. The board must consider whether he intends to leave legacy for the next manager or is simply here to enjoy himself. This point asks serious questions IMO

As Tony said, it's a long term project. His concern is the future of the club, with or without Warnock".

If true it means one of two things.

                  1. The money was never there in the first place and the talk of 20 Million was just PR.

                  2. They now realise they should have sacked Warnock in early December and given a new manager the funds.

Let's face it Warnock has no pedigree in the transfer market and as the post above quite rightly points out the only way we will attract good players now is if we pay high wages and that is a big risk if we get relegated.

Looking very bleak at the minute not helped by Boltons win last night. Hope all the Warnock faithful are right and he keeps us up but think it might be beyond him.

Interesting read and at least it shows the board are not sentimental lemmings who are happy to sleep walk into possible financial armageddon. This will at least put a fire cracker under NW's backside, which he needed two months ago. The worrying bit for NW in the article is "You must put yourself in Tony's position. You put your faith and money in a manager you didn't choose only to see the team struggle".
