  • Pre-contract agreements

Surely we must have several deals lined up pre-January? If so when announced as we cannot only now be looking/talking to players?

Needs to be done far quicker. Deadline day will be too late as too many points lost.

Pre contract agreements tend to be a summer thing as the greatest majority of contracts run until June. It is illegal to approach players under contract unless the player has the prior agreement of his current employer and this all makes January buys a slow process by comparison to summer ones - or at least on the face of it because the summer is of course close season.

The other problem of course is securing quality loans early in the window as the most prudent manager's will not release players until they have their own squads sorted out.

I think we may have to be a bit patient and just see what we can pick up in the meantime.

i would have thought that we would have had agreements in place for the permanent signings agree ref loans have to wait till end of window

The thing to bear in mind is that players and agents will not want to commit too early. Look at Scott Parker and Craig Bellamy in the last transfer window, both listened to what we had to say and held out to deadline day to see if something better came to fruition. Unfortunately this is the nature of signing players these days.

Come the end of January we could be looking relegation in the face, or looking like we have a chance to stay up, so unless its a massive financial gain, I cant see any player rushing to W12 at the moment, as the players we are hopefully looking, at will more than likely want to be a PL player next season.

January is the worse time to sign players of any quality. Great players only want to play for the best clubs and good players are few and far between who go for either silly money or want ridiculous wages. Worse time to do your business so it's important we get the right players in.

Understand that but any players we ARE getting surely would have been ear-marked and discussed already? I remember a few Jan's ago us signing 4-5 players (Hall, Vine Conelly. Agymang etc) within first few days of window as we already had them lined up.

Yep, they all played at Chelsea in the cup game.

Guess it was easier then. We were a kind of Man City of the Championship and were throwing money around. £1.8m for Rowan Vine? Several hundred thousand for Agyman when the Preston chairman prob wd have driven him to Loftus Rd for free just to get him off the wage bill? The players who will make a difference for us now in the prem will not be without other wealthy admirers, be it here or abroad.

NW have been on about the jan window and that he only had 10 days to tie up players in august, surely he must have spoken to the targetted players managers, clubs agents etc?

Who says he hasn't. Any new players IMO shouldn't be in the squad for the FA Cup this weekend. There are far too many has beens at the club how should be capable of getting us through this weekend. I'm more than happy to go out of the FA Cup against the mighty MK Dons for Premiership survival!

Normally I'd be with you on this Dazzer but we are on such a terrible run at the moment that yet another defeat, this time to far weaker opposition, is really going to hit morale.

"We might have one in but we’d like three or four before Newcastle.” is what Neil said after Macheda.
