  • Joey Barton & Other stuff - Just back

    1) Joey Barton even admitted that he went to head-butt the Norwich player, but stopped himself. Unfortunately, the intention to head butt - especially if the Norwich player is 'acting it up' doesn't look too good. That's why he got sent off.

Having said that, Pilkington (or whoever the Norwich player was), should also have gone for a lunge on Barton just seconds after the incident. Unfortunately, the ref didn't do this.

    2) Norwich played more like a unit against us in the first half. Sure, they were a cynical, nasty unit, but they were a unit. They got some luck with the equaliser, and the goal they scored was a simple fact of 'having a man over' - funny that when you're up by a man.

    3) Taarabt was our best player today. He was brilliant - couldn't understand why he was sent off. As much as I'd love to justify the "rolling of the dice" by bringing Campbell on, Taarabt still looked our best outlet for creativity. His free-kick that led to the save by Ruddy was sublime - and so was a lot of his passing and delivery. We're going to miss him in the African Nations Cup (and if the rumours are true, he's off to Qatar after that in a £15m deal).

    4) The ref was absolutely absymal. He let the game get out of control by not putting his foot down early - and by the second half, he was equally poor by giving "make up decisions" - which everyone in the ground couldn't really understand.

    5) We played well today. Especially in the second half. We need to score goals - otherwise we're doomed.

    Onwards and upwards.

Usually 10 men give a account of themselves andceither hang on or carve out a win on the break - we were woeful and seemingly rolled over and died and did just what Norwich hoped we would. Very predictable that we didn't upset the odds with10 men.

So if a player intends to score, but misses a sitter, does the ref award a goal?
