  • Some concerns

    1. Giving away possession/dwelling on the ball for too long in very dangerous areas. All the players have been guilty of this at some stage, but repeat offenders are Traore, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Taarabt and the centre-backs. Warnock has got to cut this out.

    2. Set-pieces. We are wasting so many that it is starting to get embarrassing. It does make me wonder what the players do on the training pitch. That short corner we took today was genuinely one of the worst I have ever seen.

    3. Bothroyd. Every time he gets the ball he seems to fall over or give it to the opposition. It also frustrates me how he doesn't chase defenders down like Helguson does - against teams like Arsenal it's absolutely vital to do this and try to force errors. Unfortunately, having watched him on many occasions now, he's not good enough for the Premiership.

    4. Mackie. Deserved his place in the starting line-up after his two goals, but did absolutely nothing today. Works hard and can cause problems in certain situations, but for me lacks Premiership quality.

    5. Traore. For me, it's painfully obvious that the guy is a left winger. All the weaknesses in his game are defensive in nature, but he offers such a threat when going forward. When he was played in a midfield role against Stoke, we won the game.

    Agree most of that Godfather.

But i feel sorry for Boothroyd, he is not a lone or main striker, he plays better with the ball at his feet and in the hole were SWP and Tarbs play. worth his place in the squad to me, but we need to find out his best postion.

Mackie i disagree, he brings more to the squad than most people relise. He reminds me of Kyut for Liverpool not the most skillful but gives the team Energy, Commitment and enthusiam which you need within your team.

Agree with Traore but he is the best LB we got by a mile, with out him ur stuffed as even though i love Clint he is just not quick enough and with or CB's not the quickest he will be exposed if he plays to much.
One for all.... and all for one

It's chicken and egg the possession concern you raise. The first thing we should be doing is making quick (first thought) passes. If this isn't possible due to lack of team mate movement of being closed down it leaves 2 options. First one is to launch it long, second is to try and hold onto the ball a little long whilst keeping your body between the ball and the opponent.

It depends what kind of football you want to see. I prefer option 2, but appreciate with this comes some errors. So, we are doing this and playing better football as a result (see today and 2nd half vs Swansea for example).

The one thing an apparent Premiership player shouldn't be doing is giving a ball straight to Arshavin, when under absolutely no pressure. SWP is a fool and imo Wayne Routledge would have been a better bet than him. Wayne is as fast, is stronger, crosses as well and can finish alot better.

SWP cost us a point today because I'm convinced we would have drawn 0-0 without his mistake. All the hard work for nothing. We were decent enough that with 5 mins to play Arsenal started holding he ball in our corners to keep possession.
