  • Lets put this Jelavic bashing aside please..

I have watched this guy a few times and he would be a decent player in EPL.

Big, strong with a decent strike. These attributes stay no matter where he plays.

Yes we all know the Scottish leauge is pants, but players such as Di Canio, Henrick Larrson, Mikel Arteta all performed to a high standard there and were a success in the EPL and even for Barcelona.. So there is simply no corrolation between Jelavic playing for Rangers then signing for us and saying he plays in a shite league!!

He is also an international for Croatia who are a decent side so he is accustomed to playing with and against top level players.

So we could sign a Zamora or Johnson from Fulham, both who have played and scored Premiership gpoals for the last few years, but what guarentee is there for success??

I Like Jelavic, I think he is exactly the type of striker we need, and he knows where the net is.

      Well said indeed
      Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
      And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

I think it does make it more of a risk though - not proven at highest level etc. It is the same as an established Prem Team buying from the Championship...worse even as the Championship is better standard the SPL.

i dont question the player, more the pricetag.

It's his international record that is a worry though! 2 goals in 17 apps!

You can talk about Larsson etc as much as you like, but he was class at all levels, Jelavic isn't!

He will do ok but thats it, i'm not worried about signing him, it's the fee we're spunking on him

Moyes and Hodgson went to Rangers to watch him the other day. They would only make the trip if they'd had consistently good reports from their own scouts.

I think that's the point - we don't know. And for a club like QPR that kind of price tag on an unproven player is a big risk.

Could turn out top be a wonderful signing, but it is a risk whichever way you look at it.

As i said originally any signing is a risk.

if we paid that for zamora we would be mugs.

                      if the rumoured is true:

                      swp for 4mil,
                      barton on a free,
                      anton 2-3m.

these are clear good business for good players(although some will argue about their performance so far), but jelavic is apprently going to be the price of those 3 combined.

if we are spending 7mil on a striker who hasn't played in english football before then i do worry, considering we are in a relegation dog fight and i dont expect NW to have 20mil+ to spend/waste.

as you stated in a thread before louis saha although injury savaged, is out of contract in the summer(i believe) - he wouldn't cost more than 2/3mil and is prolific at this level(if fit).

I simply don't know enough about Jelvac. All I wd say on the fee is goalscorers come at a massive premium - but if we really are looking in the 8-10m range I wd ideally love Defoe and if he is not for sale then Pav who (for all his shortcomings) has proved it at both Premiership and international level. However, if Warnock goes for the Rangers striker am sure he will have the backing of all of us.

I didn't say that. Comparing Jelavic to Larsson is ridiculous though!

As i said, he'll be ok, but we could get a far better centre forward for the money being mentioned!

How do you know they went to watch Jelavic?! Putting 2 and 2 together and making 5!

Matthews, Kayal, Forrest and Hooper are all being watched by top clubs.
