  • Do we have any other ideas for corners?

This is clearly a massive problem for us. Our delivery for set pieces is shocking. We hardly beat the first man. I take corners for my team and I always beat the first man. I struggle to see how professional footballers are unable to do this.

Anyway, I watch a lot of games and I notice that so many sides try different things at corners e.g a short one or one where players drops short etc. Mixes it all up. Man Utd were very good at this.

We just lump it into the box (if it gets there) and it just gets cleared. This for me is another reason why Warnock is struggling at this level He is unable to think differently from other managers to try and gain an advantage. You have to be clever at this level.

I would love us to try something different at times during a game. It's like from kick off. It's just a diagonal hoof to Helguson which normally goes out!

Another one is when Kenny has the ball, it is always a long quick punt to Mackie. The goal yesterday came from a Swansea mistake.

Shame he can't run or contribute during a game though! Not fit enough!

Same goes for the up and under at kick off, just instantly give the ball to the opposition. Sometimes you really do wonder what they do on the training ground.

I think we all remember our short corners which most times used to end up back to kenny

Yes I'm afraid I have to agree too. How many times yesterday did our corners get cleared at the front post, not making it past the first defender?

Does anyone remember the invention at set pieces 'El Tel' used to use?

One was all the attacking players all grouped together at the back post with no other players in the area and everyone attacked the ball at the same time?

Or the one where, someone would arrive in the penalty box at the very last minute, thus proving hard to mark or pick up for the opposing defence as that attacking player wasn't seen ghosting in with the corner aimed at the area he would attack?

There were always lots of variations and ideas, but every bloody corner, free kick, goal kick, and even kick off is just a hopeful ball up to Helgs to win the header and for us to hope for the best after that!

Come on Neil and the boys, a bit of invention at set pieces please...

                    Come on You R'rs!!!

Outside of Helguson/Bothroyd we dont really have much heading ability. The CBs have given nothing so far, Hill seemed to win a few attacking headers against Swansea.

I wonder if we asked our "friends" at the FA nicely if we could trade any corners we win for throw ins:pleasantsuprise:.......oh hang on..

Corners are rubbish.... barely ever lead to goals. I admit we seem very poor at defending corners and maybe that's why some people believe corners are dangerous.
The attached link takes you to some stats/analysis from someone who's even more speccy than me......

Yeah, but taking corners for Bilgewater puddleducks junior football team, 'aint the same as doing it for real in proper football, is it?

Seriously though, our supposed set-piece routines have to be the worst in both the premier league and the Championship.
NW would want to get to grips with this problem pronto.
