  • Thoughts from yesterday at the game......

A good turn out from Rangers fans being just after Xmas. A fair few fans I didn't recognise. There was a massive group of Norwegians and Japanese at the game. The mob of Japanese behind me were singing all the songs and spent most of the game giving it to the Swansea in their own language which was rather bizarre.

Stewarding was over the top and very different to Cardiff last season where I thought it was excellent. Common sense is lacking in Swansea. The home side really get behind the team and you can see why many teams will struggle to get points there.

Their goal as we all saw was handball. My instinct was that Fitz Hall should have cleared his lines and when I saw it on the replay at half time that seemed to be the case. Swansea had a fair bit of possession throughout the game but never seemed to do anything probing. The 2nd half was mainly Rangers and we deserved our equaliser. Mackie scored, but bar that there was nothing else that he did during the game. He is very much one of Warnock's favourites.

My feeling coming out of the game was one of frustration again with Warnock. It was good to get a point after going a goal down, but once we got our equaliser I wish Warnock was a little braver with his subs. Someone like SWP or Bothroyd playing against Swansea could have got a winner and us the 3 points. Swansea were there for the taking. It was bizarre to play the whole game without any subs.

Tarabat was buzzing and was my man of the match. We have lacked so much creativity lately and having him back in the side saw us moving the ball quickly and looking threatening.

We still have to find another 7 wins to see us stay up. This is achievable, but it requires the manager to do the right things at the right times. Too much lately Warnock has made decisions which I struggle to understand.

Once again we saw with his team selection that different players get treated differently. I could understand Gabbidon and Connolly being dropped from the last game. But somehow someone like Barton who has been far worse lately doesn't. He is just moved to a different position so he can play. I am all for Warnock changing the team if players are out of form, but it has to be the same for everyone. Mackie is another example. He has scored 2 in 2 now, but apart from that he has done nothing in the games.

We have had favouritism under previous managers like Holloway and that has been part of their downfalls. Warnock will need to be careful as he could lose the players and ultimately the fans. The jury is still out at the moment on him if he has the tactical nous to survive in the Prem. I am on the fence with this one at the moment.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

2 goals in 2 games should be rewarded.

as long as we finish 17th by end of season nobody should be complaining. we have no divine right to be smashing anybody in this league. so get behind the team, manager and players.

My thoughts exactly. I cant understand why they were clearly playing for the draw in the last 15 mins when the game was very much for the taking. Lack of confidence, ambition, or fitness levels, I couldnt work out which but either way it was dissapointing when we're so in need of points.

I wouldnt really compare it to the Sunderland game where I think our overall performance was worse and defensively we were so much poorer. I can understand the approach of shutting up shop and playing it safe but I do think we had them on the ropes and should have gone for it.

Totally agree We were poor against Sunderland but after We scored our 1st Sunderland went on a wobble We scored a 2nd had a certain goal cleared off the line Then threw it away ,I would have love all 3 points but be fair We are on 17 points 3 behind safty target at half way stage if We get the players in that Warno wants We can make up those 3 points and reach the 40 points that should be a safty level

He cd at least have brought on some subs to freshen it up. Helgs was a dead man walking. No one is suggested we shove 10 men up top but a bit more endeavour might just had pinched it.

Of course we need to improve on Fitz Hall in january, and I'm not exactly his biggest fan but overall I thought he had a very solid game yesterday.

                        i

i watched the game in epsom and both me and alibabes thought our team lacked something it just dosnt seem to gell
we didnt look fluent ,and the whole frontal assualt programe seemed to revolve around us getting the ball onto helgersons head.
