realistically how many points needed to survive?

looking at the table would think that the total required to survive maybe a lot lower then 40, it looks like 35/6 points will be enough
reckon 20 points will be achievable? or am i pitching the survival total too low?

Same number as 18th placed team, but with better GD, which won't be easy.

If we were guessing what that needs to be?

You have to aim for 40

On average over past 10 years 38pts has secured survival in 17th place.
Last year Wolves needed 40pts to beat the drop by 1pt.
Year before, West Ham finished 17th on 35pts and beat drop by a whopping 5 pts!
This year, I suspect mid-thirties will be enough as their appears to be several teams of dubious premiership pedigree knocking about.
ps Average goal difference of 17th placed clubs over 10 years is -22. Going back to West Ham again.... their GD when they survived on 35 pts was -40.

I agree with you mate , can't see many at the bottem getting 25- 28 points out of 57 available points second half of season
