  • Do the board need a re-think

Didn't post last night as many of the threads just read like a group therapy session with lots of fans venting their anger. But now I'd like to share a few thoughts.

After his meeting with the board Warnock was downplaying expectations. TBH he never makes much sense in interviews and often contradicts himself several times in the space of a few minutes but in so far as you cd follow what he was saying he was talking about three or four signings and two or three of these being loans. This cd work if it is established players who are loaned with a view to a perm if we stay up, but above all we need players who will really fight for the cause. If as he seemed to suggest it wd be youngsters from big clubs who will simply be here till the end of the season, I have my doubts. Walker was obviously brilliant for us last season but he came into a winning side a division below. How is a young player going to respond when we might come in for three or four drubbings in a row and the fans are on his back?

A few people on here have said we have good players so have asked why we didn't win yesterday. Well Sunderland's team cost about £72m. They cd bring off the bench, in Gardiner, a player who cost £6m. We are actually punching massively above our weight for what we have spent: sadly Derry is now a clapped out free transfer, Bothroyd was free, Gabiddon was free, Mackie was £150,000 (I don't include Barton in that list because he came with a massive signing on fee and wages).

I'm not one of these fans who just shouts "FFS spend some money" because the Championship and even League One is littered with clubs who risked all by spending big to stay in the Prem. But in Jan we might need more investment than the board is planning.

Even Wigan appear to have a pulse. Wolves will fight for their lives. It can't be long before Blackburn replace Kean. The likes of Fulham and Sunderland won't go down. All those fans who were talking about Europe after Stoke were in cloud cuckoo land. There's no reason to throw any toys out of the pram, because the more sensible fan realised this season was always going to be about securing 17th place. But even after Jan its going to be hard pounding - particularly if we lose Tabs as seems almost certain because on current evidence he is the one player we have who has the bit of stardust and magic that you need in the Premier League.

To me it seems like his budget has been reduced.
      And I dont blame Fernandes.
Why give him huge money to spend on players he constanly play out of possition.

      Just my view.

question we have to ask stainrod is wheher the club will take the relegation use the parachute money to come back up stronger ala west brom , if that the strategy then prob dont spend too much if the goal is stay up this season as a priority then we have to spend on our own players not loan, the only issue is the worse our position the more expensive the deal to get them in, as no decent player going to join us in jan when at the bottem and take a relegation clause in their contract, the closer to the bottem unfortunately the bigger the investment will need to be

But if the tactic is get the parachutte money then why get "big" players like barton and SWP? If Norwich went down most of their players wd prob lump it but suspect most of ours wd be looking to move on.

then that answers the question and we need to spend big

When TF took over many questioned his financial status and what funds may be available for players, is reality now hitting and as a club we don't have the finances we all hoped for?

In comparison to FB and Bernie, TF is a pauper and has many fingers in so many pies his wealth might not stretch far enough. When you heavily back an F1 team, 2 airlines, Badminston etc etc your cash won't sustain every business unless you are really minted and I'm not sure TF falls into that category.

Waiting for relegation and parachute payments is a road to disaster. Come on we've been down that road before, Championship, League 1 etc etc just like Forest, Leeds, Sheff Weds, Southampton who are all massive clubs and have yet to recover from the fall from the Premiership. We must fight tooth and nail to secure 17th place and worry about next season come May. We can afford to give 2 year contracts on decent money as should the unthinkable happen we are secure in PL funds for a further 4 years.
22nd February away v Charlton is the 40th Anniversary of my support of QPR and my first game. Away v Chelsea 3-3 23rd Feb 1974. 40 years of pure magic!!
