In the press today lots of quotes about how he wants "two or three loan signings", with the focus on young players such as Livermore and Frimfrong, as well as one from abroad. Of course it cd all be a cunning plan to keep our targets under wraps but I wonder if the board has told him that they aren't going to spend in Jan because they don't want more big time Charlies such as Barton on the wage bill, should the unthinkable happen and we go down?
My own hunch is we might buy two players on a permanent basis - Zamora and either Bassong or the Brum defender - but the rest will be young loaners. It cd work brilliantly like Walker last season - but is quite a risk, particularly with Barton not proving to be the "leader" we hoped. What does seem pretty clear now is that any thought of permanently signing a Defoe or a Bent are fantasy.
