  • the faurlin/barton partnership.

I think the past two games have highlighted our need not for more competition in this position. i feel both are too similar in how they play, neither of them are willing to commit in going forward or making that defence splitting pass(that said our movement up top is dire)

i just feel we need a more attacking CM to sit alongside one or the other.. and looking at recent form it would be faurlin only because barton has played worse.

but my question really is.. who could we sign loan or perm?
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
    Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

I agree we need a new CM but personally think we need a premiership version of Derry. If we keep playing 4 4 2 I'd like the wingers to become more creative ie getting some decent crosses in and taking on the fullback. Traore is the best at it and Mackie sometimes does it just taking the fullback on and whipping a ball in that beats the first man. We only ever seem to have one player in the box when we are attacking as Bothroyd seems to want to collect the ball outside the box and run wide with it. If we did get a creative midfielder I would like us to sign Krancjar.

The reason why the 4-2-3-1 worked so well last season, was because Derry was more the holding player and Faurlin was the one to get forward. Barton and Faurlin just both bomb on now leaving nothing covering when they loose the ball.

Exactly the scenario for Carricks goal.

You would have thought that when it happened at Stoke, something would have been said so it did not happen again, but when you then see it happen v Liverpool and then again on Sunday v Man Utd, it makes you wonder if it has and if it has, have people listened ?

i said this last week and got shot down. It doesn't work, we need a player in the center willing to take a yellow, which is that i thought barton was. Both Barton and Faurlin have cost us goals in the passed couple of weeks which i think if we had a derry type player in the center would not have been conceded.

Both are fantastic players, but dont think the formation works. I would like to see this formation:

            Kenny/Ceryn

            young ferdinand hall traore
            swp derry Faurlin taarabt
            Barton
            Iceman

            Awaiting the shoot down

The main thing I would "shoot you down" on mate is your choise of Hall over Gabbidon & Connolly!

I think If Taarabt play, Bothroyd will not need to go back to the mdfield to collect the ball.

If Taarabt plays, he needs to play behind the striker in a free role, so he can go where he wants, without affecting the balance of the team. He is not disciplined enough to stick left or right wing (although he could play there) and the shape and balance is killed stone dead if/when he goes walk about and the full backs are exposed.

                  ----------------- Kenny ----------------
                  - Young - Ferdinand - Gabidon - Hill -
                  ----- Derry/Barton ------ Faurlin -----
                  ----- SWP ---- Taarabt ----Traore -----
                  ------------------ DJC ------------------

Absolutely Paul but will NW sacrifice dropping Barton?

Its time for DJC to show what he can do IMO and having a bit of pace up front, might add the bit of something we have been missing of late. Also, if HH aint playing, the ball will have to be played out, bringing FAurlin, Barton, SWP, Taarabt and Traore into play more, instead of the ball be longed over their heads.

I still think DJ is pretty unproven in our squad, and would be hard to justify his inclusion over HH. Agree regarding style of play, would be nice to have a pacey striker who isnt scared to run at players, cant remeber the last time we had one

We have one (DJC, who scored 13 goals in the PL last season) and that's why we should give him a go.
