  • Is Mackie a PL player

I do not think so. It is not possible to have a player in a PL team with the only contribution of running up lost causes and winning maybe 2 times each match. There is more to it than that. Put SWP on the wright wing and Taarabt on the left and we have a much better team.
The change at haft time at against Tottenham did nit have anything with Mackie coming on - what changed was Barton going into the middle. SWP is constantly playing out of his best position.

    My team for saturday

    Kenny
    Young - Connolly - Gabbadini - Hill
    SWP - Barton - Faurlin - Traore
    Taarabt
    Helguson

Its a losing battle. Warnock and Jones love him to bits. You only have to listen to the Mick Jones interview on Player last night. A fan emailed in asking why SWP isn't played on the right. Jones' reply was because we have Mackie there, he then went on a grand eulogy about him.

Conners hasn't played any football for months.."here you go conners, just Rooney and welbeck today" he would be as sharp as a spoon.

To me Mackie is PL. not outstanding PL - but we can't compare his to the top end strikers, as he's not that.
He's done more than Andy Carrol and there's a guy who's going to end up going from PL club to PL club for the rest of his career.

Mackie is 100% a PL player and a perfect role model to young people, as he shows week in week out the desire needed to get to the top. Also, just as there are people who play the piano, there are people who carry the piano onto the stage....... you need both.

PS: Why would you have Taarabt on the left, when he is finished at W12 and the best player QPR FC has suited to that position is Traore and the reason things changed in the 2nd half at Spurs, was because Adel taken off. Horses for courses and all that.

            .
Mackie is decent, but a better option than SWP on the right?

A for effort and determination ..... Premier league - not so sure ..

Regardless, SWP should be played in his rightful position and i think from that we will reap the rewards far more ...

Do like Mackie and believe he will come on ... Ahead of SWP - no way ...

I cannot believe this thread has even been started.

                1. Mackie broke his leg
                2. The only reason why people are questioning him is because he was scoring for fun before his break
                3. He works solidly for 90 mins
                4. He is scoring Internationally
                5. He offers so much for this team

HE IS 100% PL quality, not the best however not a finish article!! Give the guy a break along with the rest of the squad who GOT US PROMOTED!

dont get how you can criticise mackie saying he isnt PL then in same sentence say taarabt is or at least should be in our start xi?

What has taarabt done in this division? whos played better in this division mackie or adel?

adel needs to take a page out of mackie's book and work harder. mackie isnt the best PL player or anything like that. but you never come out of a game saying 'he was dire' like we all have been about adel(aside newcastle at home)
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
                  Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

Desire and effort - worth nothing compared to quality. He is only PL if you are a bottom 6 club. Yes - he runs a lot - great.

I understand where the original question is coming from and I agree with someone earlier who said that he is PL standard but never going to be a star in it. I think if we want to go forward he will probably be replaced by someone better, but at the moment he seems to be doing a job for the team. He needs games after his injury, perhaps it would be fairer to judge him at the end of the season?

I think it will be a fascinating January, especially when the 25 Squad is announced at the end of it all!

Warnock is very much like Holloway in some ways. He loves certain players and will do anything to have them in the team even if it unbalances the side. SWP is certainly a better player than Mackie on the right and should be ahead of him there. It's like I want a centre back at centre back if Ferdinand is injured. I don't want Young who is a right back playing there. I think Connolly will be fine there. United are a good passing side and Connolly does well against these kind of sides. Hall is injured. But I don't rate him anyway. God knows where Perone is. Not exactly many options there!
