Funnily enough I said exactly the same this morning. I said we will beat United on Sunday, with Barton and Faurlin running the game then Fergie will come back with a 20 mill offer for Ali in January.

The most worrying thing for me is that United, for the first time in ages, need to spend some money in january. With Anderson, Fletcher and Cleverley all out Fergie will surely strengthen in that area. All the top players in Europe will be playing in the champions league and won't come. United need someone they can rely on in and looking at players who are currently performing in the prem is the safest option. It's always a gamble looking outside for a quick fix. Although Faurlin isn't yet good enough for united Fergie needs some quick and buying someone who has room to develop is something he loves doing. If an offer does come in from a bigger club we can't blame him for leaving (as long as its not to the ****).

        .
That would be right if he's restricted to buying 1 player, but that may not be the case... He could get a few players, all midfielders if he wanted to.

Regarding those other players, i was only highlighting that he buys players for the squad, not necessarily the team, and if he wanted AF, he'd be of that type, ie, he couldn't be the solution signing, but maybe one of a few.

Anyway, they aren't quite dead in the water in midfield yet as still have Carrick, Giggs he plays more centrally now, Jones who he plays there by choice.

That said, i don't think he'll come in for him anyway.

He is also 24.. If he were this good aged 20, particularly if he were British, I cd see Ferguson taking a gamble on him but as Benny says he is going to want a Schneider or similar in Jan - at 24 Faurlin is only two yrs off his peak and has not set the world alight up till now if you are talking about the v highest level. Great for us tho.

People are acting like we have a young Iniesta on our hands, calm down, he's good but not THAT good.

there's a saying that you can only judge how good you are by how good your opponent is.
think there should be another one - that you're only as good as your team mates.

Ali is, imo, brilliant. he has vision, is able to create space, excellent passing and control. has he got less assists this year because the front line aren't converting?
Is he not distributing the ball well enough because the back line are not passing the ball through midfield but hoofing it downfield (which has been our tactic recently - and annoyingly)

                    it's a good thread this - it's a rhetorical question - none of us are right/wrong.

I'd like to think that Ali would do very well in a midfield that demands a creative and quick passer of the ball.

Whether he ends up staying with us for years to come, or moves on to a new chalenge - good luck to him. He's been our most consistant high performer. Thank you Ali.

Great player but needs longer to prove us/them/anyone/everyone he is a top top performer

Our best player so far by some distance
I blew a lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. - The one and only Stanley Bowles

Dont think sir Alex will be digging into his pocket for Ali after todays performance, looked lightweight against their midfield gave the ball away far too much, also caught on the ball their mifield was very mobile Joey & Ali didnt get a grip at all
